System: XP
Recently, I cannot run MTA:VC.
When I try to open it, it says,
"windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access them."
All I know about this, is that when I scan MTA with an anti-virus program, it says
it has a trojan virus.
However, I have been able to run it without any problems.
I have not installed any other programs in 1 month.
I suddenly get this message today.
I tried reinstalling.. same thing happens.
Anyone knows how to fix this?

Hello MiB, i never had the problem when i was using Windows Vista, i used google for you. Perhaps this (http://www.adminscripteditor.com/editor/Help/WebHelp/Troubleshooting/Error__Windows_cannot_access_the_specified_device,_path_or_file..htm) will help you ?!
Good luck mate,

Another possible solution (http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic41393.html) (Check the last post of the given forum link), i found.
Good luck MiB ;)

The first solution is for windows 2003.
The second one, the replies are out of the topics.
They did not understand the situation correctly.
Anyways, thanks for helping.
:ps: anyone else who can help me...?

I think it is something with the windows updates.
Last night, I came into the server at 11:55 before going to bed.
I checked the last updates and it was 12:26 that day.
I used the system restore to go back to the earlier system settings.
But it still does not work..

re-install?

The problem is solved.
The anti virus program called Avast! was blocking MTA.
I deleted it.

I had same problem today avast caled mtaclent a virus.. i was yust about to ask u do u use it...
-
Same problem.
avast was b***ching about my MTAClient since it updated the virus definitions (which interrupted me when i was watching F1 GP lol). Later when I want to go on MTA - the stupid annoying siren and the mofo saying 'warning, virus found'...
Solutions:
1. turn off avast when playing MTA
2. get another anti-virus
-
Kaspersky is the best AV program.
Searched/downloaded the most.
-
I'm suprised that avast! kept saying your MTA was bad. I use avast!, but it never says my MTA is bad.

OMG, after the very last update of avast! virus database, it started to say MTA is a virus. I think avast just got a bug in the database, which makes it assume MTA is a virus, when it isn't.

I found a solution
Note: i have a polish language version, so i re-translate the windows - don't be surprised if something is going to be named in an other way
1. Right click on the (A) in the system tray (next to the clock)
2. go to 'Access protection control'
3. Standard protection
4. Adjust...
5. Advanced tab
6. Add: MTAClient.exe (if it won't work, try "*\MTAClient.exe")
7. OK, OK
8. Launch MTA 0.5 :)
-
Hurray. Although, in your steps, you name of button exactly as it is in avast!. Eg. That "adjust" button you mentioned, is actually labeled as "customize"
-
old avast was ok with mta...
new one 4.8 thinks its a virus... dunno why
