No overexaguration here, Rockstar Games are saying that GTA IV has already made $400 Million in preorders and retail orders before the game’s global release on April 29th.
According to Variety, Rockstar predicted that the game will make that much based on the demands by retailers which, if right, would beat Halo 3’s release of $300 million by $100 million.
What this all means is that in 7 days, the game would sell 5.6 million copies. It might even ship 9 Million by the end of 2008, according to leading US finacial firm Westbush Morgan.
And get this, the game could be not just the highest selling game in history, but also the fastest selling entertainment product of all time. It would beat ‘Pirates of the Carribbean: At Worlds End’ which made $404 million worldwide. In six days.
If I tell you that this game is being released in India as well as in Australia and New Zealand (Censored as they may be) as well as across the UK and Europe, you have potential for the biggest selling product in Entertainment history.
Then you throw in the take over bid rom Electronic Arts. Take Two has rejected them twice but EA aren’t backing down without a fight.
As far as we know, nothing has progressed in the ‘hostile‘ takeover of Rockstar’s parent company Take Two with no definate info on if anyone has taken their offer. But if they can hold out before April 29th, after hearing these statistics, there won’t be a takeover bid. Simple as that. If anyone sells their stock knowing they have a juggernaught ready to be unleased by the end of this month, they are the biggest idiots in the world.
But back to GTA for a sec…you can’t really describe how big a deal this is. No movie in history has ever made $100 million in one day. Not even Halo 3 made that much in one day and the hype and buzz behind that was huge. And GTA will do it, no problem. It’s phenominal not just from Take Two’s perspective but from the video game industry in general. If you need proof that video games are more profitable then Hollywood and Steven Speilberg is justified in doing projects with EA, you’ll be seeing it in pure green. Green that EA will never see.

The GTA series will always beat the Halo series because it's such a good game but the Halo series isn't bad at all, I love it.
