Title: mirc?
Post by: VMNT on April 17, 2008, 03:12:10 pm
Lately, I have been getting command prompt windows opening when my computer has been idle for some time... They say something has gone wrong and needs to close yadayada.

So I went to the file where these command prompts come from, and tried to delete the file- (The file was only made on the 10th of this month) But it wouldn't let me.

I noticed that one of the files in there has mirc in it's name, I've seen something about that here I'm sure.

So, I'm wondering, what the hell is mirc and why is it on my computer?

I did try to delete it, but it came up with a message saying it couldn't delete one of the .dll files.

And I haven't installed anything for a while, the files properties say it was created on the 10th.

If it says that, it means that the .dll file is currently in use by another person or program on your computer, or a computer loged in to your system.

:ps: Maybe this is some hacker who logged in into your computer and is now using those files to hack your PC and destroy everything, including the processor.  :conf:

Try deleting that in Windows Safe Mode (press F8 before Windows loading screen appears)

try as grz said or get any advanced task menagers (whitch show what app is using whitch dll-s), or simples ctrl+alt+del, go to proceses tab, look for a name of that dll(maybe .exe has same name) end it, then try to delete

**edit

after googlin that dll, its mirc script, just a question, do u have any irc clinents, or did u visit argo chat recently, its created by mirc.....

I've never been on any IRC things as far as I remember...

Maybe my brother did or something.

Anyway, managed to get a screen shot of what happens after a while when my computer is idle...

Another way you can delte files is rename it to:

Example:

Original: test.dll

TO: hgd7ys.huef7h9fs78

or whatever you want

restart your computer and delete the file!

(P.S, when your computer is loading it MAY take a little longer but don't worry it will show up eventually, the reason is because the program is looking for the file but it's not their.)

I was told this method from a Microsft Security Dude lulz
