Post by: Cross on June 20, 2008, 02:44:02 am
As most you know might know, i orderd myself a new PC.
Well today it was realy, i was like all exitent about it.
When i finaly got home, i tryed some stuff about, PC case looks awesome, nice keybord, awesome mouse.

So lets try some games then right?

BF2142 first, but it installed till 60% and it stopped...
WTF?
2nd time, again
3th time, again
Even the 8th time, again
I tryed some otehr stuff, but at the end, i gave up.

Alright, well lets try battlefield 2 then right?

Same damn story, didnt instal.
I i gone back, pissed that it doesnt work.
Now he told me some stuff that you need to instal XP games some other way blah blah blah.

Alright, i got home, installed BF2 and BF2142 full, tryed some single player action.
Man it looked so awesome you dont wanna know..

Now, thats the first reason you buy a Battlefield game for? yeah, online.
So i downloaded some patch, 550mb and i tryed to play it..
WTF? only 20 servers? oh fuck i can't belive i done this.. wrong patch...
So i downloaded the next patch, also around the 550mb, man wtf?

And then it was the moment, patches where done... i started up the game...
Aaah, taht servers looks nice, i clicked on it...
Conection Failed, check your settings..
WTF >?!
And after 40 times, still the same shit, it was inposseble for me to connect to a game.

Its now 2:42 at my place, i started to fix this at 22:30.
I have been on this more then 5 hours and i still didnt fix it.
Am now pissed, stressed and disepointed as hell....

Am now downloading the patch for BF2142... lets see whats going to happen now...

Man... Vista... what a piece of shit..

Thats the whole problem, if i put XP on it, the whole system will drop down much.
On Vista its like damn fast, runs smooth.

Well they told me that if i will put on XP, my PC won't preform the max. it has.
I got Vista on one comp, XP on the four others...
Vista, slows EVERYTHING down, trust me... Vista will make your computer slower then a turtle without legs. Feel meh'?

Yes, XP runs/loads faster than Vista.
Then again friends, Win98 Loads/Runs faster than both. :lame:

Cross, not sure about you, but I've never had one single problem installing/running anything.
And about the 'Running extremely slow'...

I Benchmarked Crysis with Everything at High Settings, I got maybe 39-40FPS max on Vista.
Then I formatted my HD, installed XP (as I had some time on my hands.) let some stuff run for 10 mins, downloaded my latest drivers etc, then I installed Crysis and Benchmarked it at the same settings I did with Vista.
Oh guess what? Same output friend. 39-40FPS max.
So I laughed for about 6 minutes, then formatted + Installed Vista again.

I personally see this "XP Vs. Vista" (The 'slower performance' part) as Two men with Giant Catapults sitting on a high mountain, overlooking a small village.

Man 1 = XP.
Man 2 = Vista.
Their catapults are the same.

Man 1 says: "Hey dude, watch this, I can launch this 50 pound rock 500 feet and break 1 house too!."
Man 2 says: "Well that's nice and all, but I can launch a 200 pound rock 300 feet, and destroy the whole goddamn village."
It all sums up to your hardware.
If you're still using a GeForce MX 100/200 with a 1.2Ghz CPU and 512MB of RAM, attempting to run a next gen Operating System, its not the OS' fault, its your computers.

And about 'things not installing' - Look friends, some programs made in the Win98 years, still do not install on Windows XP.
I was looking on another forum about a kid who couldn't installed Battlefield 2 (Not 2142.).
I said to myself: "Oh, thats a great game, that sucks that he can't install it."
I sat there for a second like an old man, then I looked over and saw BF2 sitting on my desk (This is when I first got this new PC.)

I said "Oh what the hell, lets give it a go."
I installed it with Zero errors...

Why is it that everyone else sometimes can't get some programs to work?
Answer: They are ignorant of how their PC works.

And UAC is a big deal with alot of the problems you may experience. Try disabling it.

Already done that, its just the "Cannot connect to server" in BF2 thats breaking my neck.
The rest works pretty fine.

Am also sick about the XP - Vista battle.
Most people who dislike Vista doesnt even know how to use it.
I also have some problems with Vista, but am sure in some weeks i know lots about it.

Well with the BF2 series, some servers don't update their servers for various reasons, some of which are reasonable, since EA releases patches every 3 days... (Exaggerated).

That could be the problem.
Try googling "Battlefield 2142 Vista Cannot Connect Server".

And yes, I have a couple odd errors every now and then, but its nothing 5 minutes of tinkering & Searching can't fix :D

I have got Home premium or something on my mums computer.. it Ran like shit with 1GB of ram... My Vote, Vista needs 1.5GB of Ram or more to run right and more for the games

Microsoft Windows 10 is being developed now..
that will be in between Vista and XP

But yes it sums up to your hardware not OS

I use vista on my laptop and yes there is some issues with non-compatibility but it's not as bad as people put it out to be. Of slowness, this is only because people are not getting good enough hardware, you can't expect the best things if you want to go cheap.

Mine is always running at about 1.4GB minimum, that is w.o playing any game, you should get at least 2GB but really you should consider 3-4GB.

For the simple sake of simplicity, I paid extra for my new Alienware to be shipped with XP rather than Vista.

I can see the future of me, sitting at a desk, going:
"Goddamn new Windows, everyone knows Vista is still the best nothing works on this new one! Just reinstall Vista!"

I don't like Vista now, and given the option would probably theme it up to look like XP (which, in my opinion, looks better than Vista). The time I had on Vista gave me a headache, and put a sour taste in my mouth of the whole thing. That said, eventually I will be forced to go from XP to Vista, and then the whole process starts again..

Vista has its shitty security options... Which did not let you to download normally... thats the main problem - too much you need config to run one simple game/program...

And yes the guy sold you comp is right, Vista is faster... It uses 100% its resources, then XP...

I liked Vista running games, but I preferred XP for simple downloads as was tired of all this special settings for each program... I could not even start running my Video Edit Program... Neither new codecs... lol

So I am now on XP - which is faster cos simple...

Vista has some security in installing that makes people crazy who have no patience...Also the protection of the system folders is strong to have less security leaks.
Aragorn wehnt back to XP, I stayed on Vista....and have zero problems.
With every new Windows version people complain that the old one is better... I remember the discussion from Windows 95 vs Windows 3.1, Windows 98 vs Windows 95, Windows Millennium vs Windows 98, WindowsXP vs Windows 98/Millenium...... in the end most people just can not get used to something new and get confused as they can not find their buttons.
Also people are stubborn and try to make Vista look and perform like XP by shutting off the new options.... like buying a new PC and putting back the old video card and processor because the game looked better in low spec graphics.

Im more than  satisfied with my Vista Ultimtate (64bitars) it took a while but remember if you dont like all these security warnings about "Do you want to run this application with administration rights?" or something I turned off the UAC and now it works good without annoying warnings.

Conclusion vista works damn good for all my needs and it lets you use the max of your computer. Another cool function in vista is the Readyboost which lets you stick in a memorystick (flash) and it will use the stick as a ram-memory and the graphic mem/ ram mem will work together when you have free none used ram it will move it to your graphic memory.

Clooak

Its important that you dont install Vista first and then install XP after. It doesnt work properly then i noticed myself. I asked my PC teacher at school and said format and install XP and then Vista... And yeah then it worked..

Anyway, shit happens

i got vista on my lappy
and the deadly blue screen which reboots your system just pisses me off.

i think it happens when you uninstall some vista non-compatible program.

Now im starting to wonder how you did the install always when you install a new windows you format the drive with the operativesystem . So no need to isntall in some special order that doesnt matter as long as  u format.

I had Vista with my laptop, and needed XP for school. Made second primaire partition (NTFS) and installed XP on it. Came to the conclusion the XP bootloader overwrites the Vista bootmanager...
So, you need XP first in order to let them work both ...

Sorry for offtopic
