I'm asking for a Laptop for Xmas and I want to play atleast some fairly decent games on there such as GTA and CS.. what do you think are some basic gaming specs that I can give to my parents?
-
You want to play maxed out GFX or very high?
:ps: If you want for xmas, by then there will be other stuff with laptops, to look at components now is good for an idea but you should be checking out stuff more towards the date.
-
Just very high :)
Thanks for the advice
I dont think they want to pay over $1000 too..

If you want to browse, take a look at Portacom (http://www.portacom.com.au/portacom_special.pdf), there's a store in Perth and they specialise in laptops. ;)

I play on laptop. I play both, GTA:SA & CS (1.6) Also it plays SIMS 2 very well and stuff. But i think it is too full now or some kinda viruses, the screen stucks somethimes when I play on Argonath

Good specs...
Lets'a see...
I recommend this processor: Intel Dual Core
I recommend this Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS. Not so 1337 expensive but very good.
I recommend this Windows/Operating System: Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3. If you don't want Pro, get Home Edition (I think there is a "special" edition of Home...).
I recommend VERY this Graphic Card but it's a bit expensive: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT.
I recommend DirectX 9.0c if you are NOT gonna use Vista. If you are gonna use Vista use DirectX 10.
If you are gonna have loads of games, I recommend a Hard Drive with more than 100 GB.
Motherboard: Not sure...
I don't know the prices, check yourself

Every laptop to be lauched this xmas can run the games you refered. But if you want to runs good games, you need at least a 8600M G graphic card.
Best gamming laptop on the market today it's de ASUS G1S.
Alien aware it's a robbery.
They all come with Vista. DON'T EVEN TRY INSTALLING XP!

At the end of the year there will be a lot of laptops with a mobile version of the GeForce 9600GT, I've already seen them now. I don't know what the processors are gonna do, but I think a Intel Core2Duo T9300 will be mainstream by then. It's better to have a 7200rpm harddisk, most laptops have a 5400rpm disk. Also check for the resolution the screen can handle, I would prefer a screen with 1680*1050, normally 15,4" screens have 1280*800. And about the memory, 2GB is enough..more is better. That's it I think, good luck :)

The sound drivers, HD drivers, ethernet drivers.
And plus. Crysis will only have best grafics in Vista cause of DX10.

Does it REALLY matter if I do not have a Intel Coreâ„¢2 Duo for a basic gaming lappy.
My mum was looking at this one..
Compaq Presario C774TU
Intel Celeronâ„¢ 2.0GHZ, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, DVD Burner, 15.4" Screen,

That laptop doesn't even run vista properly. I don't know how much laptops cost in Australia but in Portugal, they don't even sell laptops that weak...
How much can you spend? Preferablly speak in €uros so I can understand.

He says he wants the laptop for chrismas. So I hope I'm not late.
Minimum acceptable specs:
Dual Core processor
2GB ram
Graphic card compatible with directX 10 with dedicated memory(nVidia 8400M or something, which will run GTA4)
100GB of hard drive(Vista, Office, your little programs and about 5 decent games)
You can get this for 700€ in europe. With no dedicated grafic memory you can get for 400€ but it isn't a gaming capable laptop without dedicated grafic memory.
