Well, i have been with shaw for a year, i liked it, but they started throttling my connections, and my torrents being VERY slow, they throttled youtube, google videos, resulting in "buffering...buffering...buffering...' every 10 seconds.
So my parents got a call from shaw saying that i am going past the 60 gig (i downloaded 30 gigs and uploaded 30) bandwith cap, and shaw demanded that i stop it now, or we shut your modem down and take legal actions :conf.
my parents thought about it and are changing to Telus ADSL as they have cheaper long distance charges. and i did research and found out that telus doesnt throttle anything, and that i can go past their bandwith "cap" without them freaking out.. that i will have consistent download/ upload speeds as I wont be sharing my connections with my surfing neighbors.
Telus is only 2.5 Mbps d/l and 1 Mbps u/l :S and that is the only other ISP in my town.
Shaw is 5 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up... downsides is that shaw installs "nodes" that a neighborhood shares the connection on, so i get slow internet at peak hours.
to get an idea what torrents do on my throttled shaw.. Download: 16 Kb/s Upload: 5 Kb/s and the torrent has 423 seeds and only 38 seeds.
Is telus better for me? i basicly just do surfing, learning languages, P2P, and gaming.
:ps: Dont say "Oh torrents are SLOW :(" as they are truly not.. they once reached 800 Kb/s downloading for me when shaw had the "throttling" off. and i think with Telus that my torrents should reach 400 Kb/s download consistent speed.. ill see about the uploading speed.. any guesses?
