There are some rules in drawing people... Like head is 1/6 of all body, hands - around 50% from body without head (skeleton type)...
Skeleton type - when before drawing people, you draw first a skeleton with the correct proportions and a pose... After that you just put muscles, design of human and remove the skeleton... :)

Well... Doubt anyone understood my "exciting" explanation...  :(

I did, and yeah, its very much the basics.
Painting a human is just like making a human, there needs to be a base.
