He mean explorer.exe (system process), not Internet Explorer (browser).
Explorer.exe is process which runs icons, start bar etc etc...
If its keep restarting its problem with one of applications running. It may be some virus too...
Have you got anti-spyware and anti-virus program? What kind of (names)?

This happens to me sometimes too.. But no virus. I have F-Secure.

I have Norton 2007 I Dont think Its A Virus Because I Googled It and It seems Alot Of people Have Got This Problem

Try logging off then logging back on ( not reboot )
whenever mine crashes i do that and it works fine
if that doesnt work go to CTRL + ALT + DELETE ( Windows Task Manager )
Click Applications Tab
Then click New Task...
Then type in: Explorer.exe
Press ok
that may help

The Only Way It stays On My Account Is
1. Log On To Guest
2.Log On To My User
3.It Stays !!!

This might sounds strange ... but try to remove the Guest user and reboot... :poke:

Sounds like a virus get a virus scan and scan your computer.

I have that problem too when some folder is Not Responding the entire process (explorer.exe) closes and start menu and icons dissapear there is another way to bring them back but its a bit more complicated than lavamike's you still go to task manager but on the new task button you click browse.... and than go to windows-->system32 and find the file explorer.exe (it haves the same icon as My Computer) and click OK after that u should get the icons and the start menu back without rebooting

happened on my sisters laptop. i solved it by creating a new account. I'm sure it's a virus caus that laptop is virus infested...you on vista btw?
-
check ur processes ... (ctrl+alt+del) and end the explorer.exe process..
As next you click on the 'Applications' Tab and right below, click 'New Task' .. Here you type Explorer.exe and then it reloads..
Maybe it could be a bug inside the process itself.. You could probably also fix this with a Repair Installation.. :)
