Argonath RPG is an Role Playing Game server. Roleplaying is basically playing a role within a community, may it be a cop, a medic, and kidnapper or a drug dealer.
Roleplay is done via many commands, these include:
- / me [action]
- /l [Talking to other people you are near to]
- /s [Shouting at people are you near to]
These commands explained and examples:
The /me command is used to show something, for example: / me gives the cop his driving license, this would turn out to look like:
- "***Wash_Corleone gives his driving license to the cop"
The /l command is local talk, for example: /l hey, what are you doing? this would turn out like:
- "***Wash_Corleone says: hey, what are you doing?"
The /s command is the same as local talk, but in a shouting form, often used in anger or to attract someone's attention, for example: /s hey, you, stop, this would come out as:
- "***Wash_Corleone shouts: hey you stop"
These are the most used roleplay commands, but there are others that can be checked at the argonath website.
You may see people say to you something about non-rp..
Non-RP is something out of role. For Example:
- "***Wash_Corleone says: I want $5000 or I will kill your mother.
- ***Son says: Kill her, she's has a ugly skin anyway"
This is an example of non-rp, all role play activites should be played in their roles, and never expand their role into something out of character.
Another non-rp side is metagaming/powergaming. This is either gaming before you know something, or overpowering someone with your rp.
- MetaGame: ***Wash_Corleone says: I know you guys stracci's are going to kidnap me, hurry up, the DD is soon.
- PowerGame: ***Wash_Corleone pushes the cop over and he dies.
- Another Example: Wash_Corleone is being threatened with deadly firearms on top of a hill in Verdant Bluffs.
He attempts to go AFK by using ((Afk for a second.)), actually he PMs some of his Corleone friends to help him out of the situation.
Wash_Corleone is spectating his friend Wiwi_Corleone who runs up the hill, with a weapon hack to kill the people who were threatening Wash.
The armed guys are still aiming at Wash's head, Mr. Corleone decides to give a bloody shit about his life and runs away whilst Wiwi is killing everyone.
As you play more and more, your roleplay improves, with time you will understand what roleplay is, and how to do the best roleplay activites.
Regards, Wash_Corleone
Thanks Also to Carhatt for the 3rd example of Metagaming/Powergaming.

"***Wash_Corleone says: I want $5000 or I will kill your mother.
***Son says: Kill her, she's has a ugly skin anyway"
Lol, That was a nice example of a Non-RP.. :D
Well. Nice Guide Wash.
Maybe put Metagaming/Powergaming into the Guide. Becuse i see allot of new people's that do Metagaming

Most roleplaying guides made by players are too subjective. For example in Hayden's one, it's more about trying to make people all to roleplay his way in order for it to be "standard". Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember Hayden brought up the idea of "IC flaming", and that it is perfectly ok as long as it's "IC". We never supported that idea, as we know some "IC flaming" could have been directed towards the player itself, and not the character.
To be honest, the only real good roleplaying guide around is one which is objective, and not a "Please do this, please do that" sort of thing. You can say your perspective about some roleplaying situations, but you cannot force people to think your way. I can see some objective facts such as simply how a "/me" command works in your guide, which is ok. But make sure you don't go on correcting everyone into "Your standard" roleplaying just like what most other guides did.
-
I didn't say you HAVE to roleplay like this... It was just some easy help for players, If you read the topic subject "My Roleplaying Guide". Also, this is not my standard of roleplaying. Mine is quite different, it's a simple guide to be shown to new guys.
I didn't make it many pages long on purpose...When new players see long guides, they can't be arsed to read it and just play anyway, guides should be short and helpful

I also have a good example for non-RPing / Metagaming & Powergaming.
Wash_Corleone is being threatened with deadly firearms on top of a hill in Verdant Bluffs.
He attempts to go AFK by using ((Afk for a second.)), actually he PMs some of his Corleone friends to help him out of the situation.

Non-RP is in this case by Wash. Unless he knows the other players mother there is no way he can kill her. Also unless he has established what kind of relationship the in-game character has with his mother he can not know if the son might want to see her dead. Happens in real life.
MetaGame: not a problem on Argonath. It does not matter if you say this direcly or in PM, it is better to express it as sit impatiently waiting until someone takes the time to get an idea.
PowerGame: possible as long as the 'he dies' is not followed by Wash killing the cop. Sometimes new players need instructions on what to do, and powrgaming can be very helpful to them.

The single most important thing about RP is improvisation. By improvising interaction with others you can make a boring situation interesting, and funny for all involved.
At the occasion of my 123553th kidnap two days ago, a player called me (as the kidnappers never even thought of taking my phone) with a 'mistaken pizza order'.
By answering him the kidnappers thought there was someone at a place who would pay ransom money instead of a pizza order.
SWAT was faster once we got outside...but it was something that made the kidnapping much less boring.
-
Okey, I added the example that Carhatt made, thanks for that.

There was an old topic which had much more things that this one, and got deleted because Argonath id not against the meta/powergaming and does not support the IC and OOC.

Hayden's one.
I think his one was better, but what the heck, doesn't matter. New players don't visit forums anyways before they play...
no offence.
