Title: What's Important For You During Your Roleplay
Post by: Carhartt on January 11, 2009, 05:35:55 pm
Would be interesting to see how others define good roleplay & what's important for them during the roleplay.

Not mixing OOC and IC, knowing your role, realism, and not pulling guns out of your ass.

Let both sides Role play exemple: let good guy RP and Bad guy. As said before Don't start shooting at each other.
Also ask things in OOC so you know what you are RPing about.
I don't like violent role play's I only like shoot RP in some Police chases. But not all chases.
I also like to RP a traffic stop. That you need to sort out what's wrong etc etc etc

I don't like when people say "pull guns out of your ass", there's no need to do /me for every single thing, use your fucking imagination.

Don't meta-/powergame, don't mix ooc/ic and RP as how it'd be in the real world. And YES, I try to RP as realistic as possible, even if others say "this is RP, not real life". That statement is just very damn dumb as this game actually is present in the 90's with a realistic touch in it (even though you do alot unrealistic shit, but still). RL RP is what everybody wins on, no matter how you see it.

Also, if you're a thief and a cop aims a gun at you, and you just suddenly turn around, pull a gun from out of your ass and start shooting, then it's imo powergaming as you have no time to anti-rp it. And besides, would you really do that in real life if someone has a gun pointed at your head?

Though, what's even most important is good english imo. All of you who try to RP with me and don't know a word what I'm saying can just seriously fuck off and start playing a DM server or something, because RP isn't their thing then.

Both parts understand, all what the single person is doing for RP.

• Not mixing OOC & IC
• No powergaming
• No metagaming
• If people don't pull out guns from thin air
• Proper sentences / language, things like "z0mg, wtf, lol, idk, nao" just piss me off if it is IC
• No bunnyhopping, are you also doing that in real life, it simpy sucks.
• Realistic roleplay
• Firstname_Lastname, "Ekr0X4t, [XY]Example" cmon ...
• No shooting unless it's needed
• No dual weapons, if you don't have any skills and give a shit about good roleplay, have fun with them, noob.
• If someone is aiming at you, act as if you're afraid instead of playing the hero
• No stalking (Mostly from the police because they're bored)

That's important for me.

Good points, duals is the most overrated shit thing in this server. Jesus, it's so non-rp, I can't believe so many use them, even admins.

I don't have any care for OOC or IC. I mix both happily, tbh. If people can't get which messages are IC or not, they aren't reading them properly.

Creativity, imagination and having a good time.

I've done some of that you guys call "super-serious-realistic-leet-only-roleplay" and at start I thought; "Damn, this is so cool! Do everything I do in real life in a game!".

But all of this;
/me digs in to his deep pocket.
/me picks up his brown wallet and opens it.
/me unzips the coin "slot". (pocket w/e)
/me picks out a coin.
/me zips the coin "slot".
/me dusts off the dirty coin.
/me puts the coin into the soda machine.
/me looks at the different kind of sodas that are available.
/me pushes the 7up button.
/me hears the machine scramble.
/me grabs the soda.
/me opens the can.
/me sips on the soda while being awesome.
/me whines about dual weapons and noobs who can't f**king roleplay for shit.

.. made it boring. I guess it's not for me

I like the kind of roleplay that when you turn off the game/computer you do it with a smile on your face thinking "That was fun!". You know?

Sure, i like realistic rp but as tiderman said above i don't like using /me all the time. But of course, you should use /me when you take a gun out of your ass, haha. But not when you're using it for things like: /me farts or /me is turning left at the end of the road. It makes it pretty boring. Using (( )) for OOC is something that i like. Also people who are playing seriously and don't joke all the time about shitty things.

And how do you have that?

By doing what u think is fun. In the limits of the server rules.

Dont go around annoy people, just have fun RPing. Not any extreme pr0 l33t RP that u /me every step u take.

I often do /me at things u cant see. Im not doing /me takes a sprunk becouse, u can see that ingame, u can see him putting in a coin, u can see him take the drink, u can see him drink it. No use to /me all that.

I roleplay often a farmer, cop or taxi driver, or something else. In all these, its about having fun.

I personally dont think all the extreme RP is fun, its get booring fast.
Be with those who think thats funny,  some mates to do extreme Roleplay with, sure, if u want to do what tiderman exampled, do it, but dont complain on everyone else that dont.

If the RP does not have:
I consider it good.

I don't care about the persons' name, as long as he has imagination enough to use a RPish name during the RP.
I don't care about OOC/IC mixing, if someone says 'lolwut' without brackets, if you consider yourself a 'good RPer' you can judge what is supposed to be OOC and what isn't, and it isn't harm to ask if that was OOCly or not incase of doubt.
I do use OOC/IC sometimes, but I don't mind if the other person doesn't use it.

Things that increase roleplay:

Things that IMHO are non-realistic, but don't have much to do with roleplay:

Things that are considered as RP-enhancing, though they're not:

These might be updated later.

Is Argonath a game or a school where you can't do anything wrong and be hated IF you do?

Everyone is almost complaining that it was better in the early argonath times,

Maybe rewind yourself to that time, when you accepted every style of roleplay...

  • Bunnyhopping - totally not realistic, but doesn't really have anything with roleplay
  • Pulling a gun "out of your ass" - does it look better when you add '/me...' and STILL pull it out from your ass?
  • Internet talk - saying "wtf", "lol", etc. What does it have to do with roleplay/nonRP ?

I've pretty much got an answer for all those points above.

Now bunnyhoping is non-rp if you do it in a RP situation.

For example: You're being chased my a cop. You're car is just about to blow and you pull the doorhandle and swiftly jump out of the car. The cops pull over (hopefully not driving them over, because that's also non-rp. A cop wouldn't ever drive over the criminal to make them arrested, it's a risk to kill the suspect and/or give them serious wounds) and start chasing the suspect. Suddenly the suspect goes bunny and starts jumping with his feet first without getting tired, where's the RP? Let's face it, bunnyjumping is not realistic. Starting to bunnyjump is basically just lame. It's powergame, non-rp and ruins the situation for the cop who might actually try to RP a foot-chase, as he'll be forced to either bunnyjump himself, get his car or just continue running after him as you would do in real-life.

For the part where you pull your gun out your ass is basically just what RP is. Imagination. You do a me command, for example: /me reaches for his waistband quickly and pulls out his gun. You might see this as some kind of pulling your gun out of your ass still, but as the /me command basically says, you pull it out of your waistband. That's it, you pull it out of your waistband. Imagination. It's the same as drinking imaginary drinks at the bar, or receiving a ticket where you've been pulled over.

Internet talk such as WTF or LOL is just basically ridiculous if you use it in an RP situation. Now, some peoples arguments for this kind of saying is, "Hey! I use WTF and LOL irl myself too!" question is though, would your fat mafia asshole character really say "LOL" or "WTF" once they speak to their men above? Do the cheacheachea breda rasta'clot guy from willowfield say L-O-L in character? No, I don't think so. Now, maybe you RP some internet geek or something, I guess it's okay if you do it then. Besides, LOL is nothing you say. "To" lol is when you laugh out loud. So, saying /l lol just isn't right, as you don't say that you laugh out loud. You do it. /me laughs out loud.

IMHO.

I don't know for how long you've been participating in the Argonath community, but I doubt it've been for very long, or you've just been very ignorant about the Argonaths past. Argonath was basically JUST as whiny, JUST as bitching as it is now. People maybe want to remember the old times as the golden age or something, it wasn't. I remember people whining around about gangwars, people whining about admins and people jacking their cars, JUST as much as before.

Everything was OK till someone invented that "limited roleplay" that Im in a battlefield fighting DMers (Not gonna mention names ...) who are bunnyhopping and using sawnoffs to kill, Im not gonna do /me wawawa takes gun out of his pocket wa wawa... Im dead before I could finish the sentence..

I have nothing against dual weapons, but I do against sawnoffs, they should be removed. Uzis and tecs could stay as a passenger drive-by weapons...

Im not gonna run if im in the middle of nowhere where no cars are around.. I rather would use bunny-hops.
Yes, I support this "Being a hero" part. You should really give up if you are ALONE with 2 guys pointing a gun on your head....
Just my options..
Old times was good, no (()), Nobody didnt even get that idea to use (()).. I usually mix ooc/ic together cause I dont like using (()), If a person is really-really dumby, I will use (()) for him/her... Whats the matter using "lol" or "wtf" or "lolwut", ppls are using this in real-life, too...

We aren't "The Godfather" server.. We dont need to use Firstname_Lastname as you now insulted some gangs/clans that uses [tag] or just RanDomNaMe123....

Edit: While I was typing, new posts got posted, so, Im not gonna modify my post..

Also, RPing a fear is a very good skill.
Imagine yourself in a dark corner, somewhere around El Corona.
Suddenly, 2 men with Glock.18's put a gun to your mouth, and ask your money.

I mostly enjoy Rping if i can imagine myself in that situation what is going on. Maybe little scared and afraid to die. I don't like to die ingame. Then i feel i have to start making new story. And that is what i do. Also i don't like if someone says *give me your money* and then shoot me with stubby. Well yeah really funny to Rp with you for 3 secs . Sometimes i play really stupid Rp like others too i believe. And when i do so i just hate to hear something like this * Very nice Rp (sarcasmic)*. Hey, if you didn't like it so what?. Go and play with some other then. I just hate peoples who are rating others Rp. I understand and like very much and if they are giving tips but rating like * blaah you can't Rp the way i want* is boring. Just try to focus on your own playing and don't rate others. This is about having fun. Not like you have to be best Rp player here. Also /me for every action..i mean for every action is boring to me as i am slow typer. I miss what others write then :)

People are just looking to make money, where's the RP? You don't must write /me to every action, but try to RP a bit realistic, don't jump away when someone is aiming with his gun at you, and don't bunnyhop, I mean come on, did you see people bunnyhoping on the streets? What happened to Argo man, I miss the old times, I'm here since 10 months, but I see Argo changed. We need to find a solution, and to stop those topics and discussions, we haven't had them earlier...

EDIT: NOT Argo changed, the people changed..
