Title: /fpslimit 100
Post by: hell1989 on March 06, 2009, 09:19:34 am
Cofiliano and me, had a "Daffy" first time with /fpslimt 25 and we hit each other good with our skills but when tested with /fpslimit 100 its impossible to hit each other. Is it true that most SAPD enable this so they can not get hit? I had a deagle duel with Jaaskka today, he even said he use /fpslimit 100, I know SAMP lag but anytime anyone shoot at him he does not get hit, but I get slaughtered with /fpslimit 25..

its important to know, that we tested few weapons, with reloging, so they wont be curent lag prob as excuse. With fpslimit 100, we waste REALY aporximetly 100 bulets one on other(like 10 min of shooting), and allmost nothing happend, REALY small hits lost like 10 procent of HP , as soon as we put on fpslimit 25, the fight wasted 5 seconds, and it was over.

Apparently our eyes cannot tell the difference past 60fps (some claim 100fps) ... and if it makes such a big difference like Hell said, I think it should be taken off, but isnt it a SA-MP thing?

I can tell difference from 25 FPS to 50 FPS, with /fpslimit 100 my FPS goes up to 60 FPS but never higher..

I think this should be tested more, because I think some SAPD are using this to advantage not to die..because I never use /fpslimit 100, it makes game too fast. FPS at 25 is what GTA SA was made for..if you play with frame limiter off im not sure what happens.

well personally i dont use /fpslimit 100 on SAPD to gain advantage over the suspects and  dont die..... i just use it to make the game run smoother, and i like how the game runs on 100 fps....  :)

To be quite honest I am using /fpslimit 100, but only because it makes my game run smooth and perfectly without any problems.

i hate /fpslimit 100,
it makes your game move very slow, like in slow-motion,
i use the lowest fpslimit (20 or 25) which runs much better and faster

Are you being serious? Sorry, but this is the most ridiculous accusation I have ever heard on the SAPD.

Turning the frame limiter on will allow your game to play as high as your computer can handle it, so if you can't get past 60 (applies to any value within the range, but I'm using your case as an example), /fpslimit 60+ with frame limiter on should have the same effect as frame limiter off.

If a player wants to play at a high fps then by all means he or she can. The only reason people shouldn't use /fps 100 is if there computer can't handle it, which results in random lag such as when loading textures.

The best way to figure out which fps to choose is to allow your game to run unlimited with fraps or some other program running so that you can see your fps. You then see the average it runs at and set the limit to just under that value. This way you can a higher fps, but without the lag. Also, depending on your visual effects settings, you may need to put that into consideration too due to things such as burnouts or smoke from gunfire.

The higher your FPS, the faster your vehicles go.
The higher your FPS, the slower you run on foot.

The lower your FPS, the slower your vehicles go.
The lower your FPS, the faster you run on foot.

Do you really want SAPD to drop to 25 FPS and super zoom around?
100 FPS doesn't make you harder to hit, it just makes them slower so you were probably aiming in the wrong place to usual.
Ascertaining what framerate your enemy is using a vital part of winning a battle, and should be done immediately upon engaging them at close range, within 2 or 3 seconds.

For me /fpslimit does nothing? If I type 25 or 100 it doesn't change or effect at all.. I always run at 75-120 ;P

You have frame limiter off.

Wow! I did /fpslimit 100, and gone was the lag at El Corona and near Willowfield ammunation!

The only reason people shouldn't use /fps 100 is if there computer can't handle it, which results in random lag such as when loading textures.
Turning off the FPS limit won't make the framerate drop on weaker PC's... but it will raise the priority of drawing as much frames as possible, at the cost of drawing the terrain (which can end up in not loading the terrain fast enough when driving fast from area to area on a slow PC).

I think I've written it clear  :trust:

Actually, what you are saying I have only seen in Vice City. In San Andreas it does exactly what I said it would do. Either that aspect of the game was made differently or it's to do with the computer as opposed to the game as I have mostly played Vice City on my old computer.

Scratch that last thought, I think it may just be the game because I remember playing San Andreas on my old computer and it acted in the same way as my new one.

what you said at my reply ghost/kitsune: i have no clue what that means

and @panda it doesnt make your vehicle go faster,
i did limit 100 when in vehicle, and it makes you go 100 times slower, with big lag.
limit 20 goes way better,

and no my videocard doesnt suck(well at this old pc the card does suck, but not at new one)
i got a strong PC, so that shouldnt be it

Ok, let me try and rephrase it then...  ;p

Do you have Fraps (http://www.fraps.com/)? If you don't, download it. You need this program to show your FPS counter ("frames per second counter", displays the amount of frames been shown each second as a numerical value, by default on top left corner in yellow text) while your playing. Get into SAMP, then type /fpslimit 100 (make sure frame limiter is on in your GTASA display options) and start playing for a while, taking note of the values you get on your FPS counter. It should average out at a certain number, so you just need to watch the FPS counter to figure out this number. Once you got the number, do /fpslimit [the number minus a little] (so if you averaged out at 50, do maybe something between 45 and 50). The reason you minus a little is because your fps is not constant, it will get a bit higher or lower depending on what your doing ingame at the time, so you need to compensate for that. If you do this properly, you will get smoother gameplay without the weird slowing down lag effect.

I hope you understand now. :D

One thing to note is that your visual effects settings on GTASA may have a huge effect on your FPS, mainly if you got dynamic shadows.

Nope, somebody tested it a bunch of time with several mods to measure speed and on a PC that can actually run 100 FPS.
You speak of "big lag" but there is no lag at FPS 100 whatsoever, so you must have a PC that cannot handle it.
The difference is small, agreeably - but its there.

Running on the other hand is very, very different between the two.

Whats the best FPSLimit to play on?

I play with Frame Limiter Off, but that's because I use those setting when stunting in Single Player, because RAD is smoother with FL off.

I didn't know that it gave advantages for someone though

Whats the best FPSLimit to play on?
There is no general answer because it depends on how good your computer is. Read my previous post.

Get some kind of frame-shower-thingy (i.e. Fraps) and then test limits. Go with the highest multiple of 5 that your PC can handle, but if you go too high you'll be gimped for speed on foot. I personally play at 50, skipping to 20 whenever I need to run fast or swim.
