Title: My STUPID network
Post by: Link9rly on April 28, 2009, 01:52:15 am
I don't know how it happened, but here is the full story. My PC was working perfectly, until one day I decided to unplug it from its location. I switched it to the living room (I'm talking about a PC, not a laptop.) and it had no internet since it does not have a wireless thingy. So, anyway, I boot up to test to see if it works. I had no keyboard, nor mouse in, so I restarted the PC (force 5 second hold to the power button) while booting. I turned it back on with the keyboard and mouse, and it booted up with a windows classic appearence with this thing saying it was auto repairing things. I was anxious to play San Andreas in a 80" projector display so while it was doing its thing, I did force turn off, again. So, I turn it on again. No errors, no repair window. Log on, and play San Andreas (Single Player). I played and played and thought it was time to put it back in its place. So, I unplug the PC, and put it back in its place. Funny what happened next (not really). I had no internet, though the internet was in. It said windows cannot find status because some service didn't start, yada yada. I had no DHCP crap, connection, not could I find out my network, nor status. What I did have was a turned stomach  (I was about to barf). So, I called HP support. Dude answers. Checked PC, all turned up good. I did the SFC thingy and no problems. Scanned my PC twice with SuperAntiSpyware, and Norton. No problems. So the guy told me to do system restore (going back in time in PC), and no effect. The last solution he said was something that made me get really naseus. SYSTEM RECOVERY! I had reinstall vista from the D: drive. So, 30 backup DVDs later, I recovered. I thought of ramming my head into the monitor (which includes mercury and whatnot) because of the stress. So, I recovered. Worked like it should. Updates, etc, etc. I had a NetGear router hooked up to it. I always wanted to lock it (put a WEP key on it) and I tried to. I ended up making our internet connection fail. I could hook up the modem directly and it would work, but no router. Went to store... parents got a LinkSys WRT160N V2. Yes, it worked, but only partially. DNS errors, stuff like that. The direct hook up to modem works fine, but I want it to work on all my other devices, iPod touch, DS (which does not work with it), 360, and Wii. Anyway, what I get is DNS error. I don't know what it is caused by. Anyone who could help, please reply. If you need anymore info, ask. and CMD says domain.invalid. That doesn't sound too good to me. :help: < It would be appreciated.
