Hello...
I am sitting here with a Transcend USB flash drive of 4GB in front of me.
I remember clearly that for some weeks ago it's full memory space was at 3.99GB...
But now, when I format it, it can't go higher than 3.82GB... So space is missing!
I really need those almost 200 MB, and I truely have no idea for where their gone...
So please, can anyone help me to somehow "reset" this USB or something, to get it's fully space on use back ?
Thanks for reading.
Best Regards

Have you tried reformatting and make sure the "Quick Format" is not selected, it may help a bit... since doing a full format could fix it... another thing is that the flash drive keeps a certain amount of space free for system usage on the drive aswell so it may be that...
-
Maybe you're formatting it with a wrong allocation size?
Try changing that when you format your flash drive.

I can only choose 3.82GB allocating...
I have tried the Quick Format, and the other format, without quick.. Same..
So what else can I try ?

i think that is the issue here... and when formatting you always lose some space off drives due to corruption or whatever..

Probaly. But there gotta be some way to reset it, make it like it was from the beginning.
Can it be caused due to some missing hidden files or something ?

i really doubt corrupt files though, when you format it resets everything to stock setup.. it must be because the drive uses some space for system memory on the drive... :pop:

Hey mate,
If you have a Windows Vista Edition Installed on your PC try to Disable "Windows ReadyBoost" Service wich allocate some Flash space (that you can specify) to increase your PC cache amount to speed your PC up.
Try it...
If not just try to switch your file system for the USB drive, either it's NTFS ot FAT or FAT32 System files... Usally NTFS file sys allocate more space that FAT or FAT32.
I hope this suggestion gave you an idea about this "Eaten" Space of the flash by PC systems

Its already FAT32 ;)
Tried the ReaduBoost thing, didnt help :(

Try a low level format tool (http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2006.04.12-HDD-Low-Level-Format-Tool/).

Hmm... Program seems to be fine... When you know how it works :conf:
"Format is done. You have to create partitions, and formar it."
Why does it say that even have a format ?
A format? I thought it was supposed to remove files? But it didnt.
Oh, and it said [4110 MB] :)
So I Will get more space than I expected.. Atleast when I know how to use this program

I guess you need to format the drive with a file system (FAT32 or NTFS).
FAT (FAT16) is obsolete.

It has always been FAT32.

PartitionMagic is a good program for formatting drives, although you will need the version that works in Windows, not the bootable, it wont recognise the USB.
If you can 'acquire' it, you should be able to solve your problem.

You may be able to format in linux and force the drive to give all of the space that it has, but it may be a bit dangerous.
