Title: My ambivalent feelings towards this server...
Post by: Enys on May 24, 2007, 01:30:12 pm
As the title states, im having trouble to decide if I should keep on playing on this server (now that I registered and all), or leave for something more to my likening.
The primary thing that saddens me, are the endless global-chat "floods"; its simply impossible to have an in-game conversation, or make a quit and noticeable statement while you are in character. Furthermore its hard to even find players who are in character on Argonath. Lastly it also breaks the RP atmosphere that develops here and there. I have no idea of how you want the server to act, but since Argonath is described as RPG I definetely dont feel like I am roleplaying when people are globally chatting about "meeting at west-side for DM", or talking about their late-night exploits. I can understand that most of the Argonath users are teenagers, but what I dont understand is that they cant roleplay their character, considered that I have played lots of RPG (live-action, pen-and-paper and PC games - pretty much everything with the RPG tag), with adolescents that easely adopted any kind of mature role.
Clans do RP in argonath, but they are but a minority compared to all the newly-registered users that stumble in and spam the chat, and even ask why there "insnt any roleplay?". That flooding of the chat makes it hard to read /say and /shout 's and therefore I though of giving interest in the possibility of completely removing the "global" chat element from the game, to force players to talk local ~edit~. I think that I could also create more use for the radio channels and cell-phones (if they DO work - havent figured that out yet).
I would like to know how you frequent users think of this? Maybe you could reserve the global chat for admins, but they got the onscreen announcements so why bother?
Am I the only one with this feeling?

there will always be new players coming in, it is best if you and other players try to teach these new players to RP, most of us started out to be DMers.

well with the chat, there is really nothing that we can do to make it local, the script for it would be big and this has been talked before.

i havent had a chance to play VC in a while because of school, sport, work and my work on SA:MP but there is always people saying these ideas. if u feel that u can't play here, then why are u staying here?

ok in VC...

we have 2 radio chatrs... admin chat and Cops... i can make civilians.. but.. whats the point... Because the most needed were Admins and cops.. the flood.. make the Game resolution bigger... and it will give you more Chat...

SA.. it does flood BIG... and its very big flood but.. i dont play it as much

I think the second will be better for you...
Our server is young, we came to SA:MP from MTA, so not many admins are on both (admins are also developing other parts of portal), A lot of new players, who came from other RPG servers (dunno why they flood chat and deathmatch), or deathmatchers, who at last found the best RPG server they liked...)))))))

With this I can asure you - we'll always have people, who are new and learning, making mistakes, breaking the rules...

If you wanna everyone RPG by the book of server - this server is not for you...

I also do not see the solving of problem in "ban them all"...

Aragorn is partially right. If you expect that players will only be RPG, we might not be the right place. On the other hand we need people who do know how to play, and who find it a challenge to teach new people. If you are up to getting killed a few times because someone did not get the idea, but want to show to new people the fun of RP, this is the place.
If you are a strictly 'user' who feels everyone on server should already understand what he is doing, it is not the right place.

Global chat simply annoys me, isnt there a way to remove it client-side?

But ill stick around and try not to bitch, ill ask a bit in the SA:MP forum, over.

We are for the 0.2 script thinking about changing the default chat from global chat to city-wide chat.
Check out the discussions on forums that already are there.

Enys from what i saw when playing with you is that you are a good cop not corrupt like most out there but then again they are still learning to.. don't give up just yet enys.. you have only just started playing on Argonath. In v2 you will be able to view text by scrolling up.. its all about patience.  :cop:

The Problem is too, that many new players ( some regulars too ) First come into the server.. then get warned for DM ( or other things ) , Then get kicked (if they are keep doing it) Then go whine on the Forums for "why am i banned" and THEN go read the rules if asked for.. most players just get in a server.. go play.. dont know what kinda server it REALY is.. and then it goes wrong.. I have an idea for that from another server, but it can be too big for the script.. maybe its good for 0.2

I saw that when u join, choose skin, Register etc.. before u can start playing, ur are forced to read the rules.. u know.. u get automatically frozen and then all the rules pop on into the chat (Can only be seen by the person who is New at that moment). Tell me if im wrong.. but i think its a good idea

Your wrong !!! Jk actually thats a fantastic idea Admins freeze players for dming etc and then unfreeze them after awhile while saying "go read the rules at..." that way they are forced to see the text :P  :cop: Out of all the suggestions thats by far one of the most important ones ive seen.

@ ^,

If we did not have rules, imagine what the world would be like.  ;)
