Title: Help needed - Virus
Post by: Alsatian on June 06, 2009, 08:57:15 pm
Hello, recently upon returning home from my Cousin's, I have discovered that my computer has a tricky, annoying virus, that I suspect my Brother has caused!

The virus is apparently a Trojan, but after multiple scans, no files were found infected. I also found a program called PAV (Personal Anti-Virus) which I believe, due to having this virus before, is a company making false alerts that there is a virus on your PC, and then offering you their programs.

My Dad went into Safe Mode and deleted the program, but still it persists and I don't know how to remove it, I can't get on many websites (Just managed to get here) and it is really slowing down my PC.

Anyone know how I can resolve this? Please, don't say format C, please.

Spybot Search and Destroy I think it is called....very good piece of freeware, scans are slow but vigorous , so it should find and hopefully terminate it. If you don't already have a main anti virus, I would strongly recommend McAfee, as they have an option to send the virus, well a sample of it, to their tech guys and they can contact you with support or update the anti virus program accordingly.

I found all the PAV files and deleted them, it seems that have stopped it but I still get blocked on IE, so I'm guessing the problem is with IE security, or something.

I downloaded Mozilla and now use this, no problems what so ever, all works fine, for now.

Thanks for the help, boozman, Dave.

Get something better than NOD, it is mainly for small use for minor internet security for someone who doesn't use alot of online capabilities, like downloading etc. It should be able to handle minor viruses but not ones made to rain havok on your PC. As I recommended to Drib, download Spy Bot Search and Destroy (http://spybot.search-destroy2009.com/index.asp?aff=103&camp=gg_spybot_uk&se=google). It is an amazing piece of freeware and can find anything hidden away inside your computer than most other anti virus scans cannot.
