Hello,
I purchased the half life 2 original cd with CS Source, HL DEathmatcha nd HL Source. I installed the game and steam downloaded the updates and stuff. It said that the game was ready so I double clicked and waitied for the game to load. The game, on the loading screen, crashes and up pops a message with subject "Engine Error" and saying something abt HL2.exe. Once I click the "ok" option another pop up comes saying "The memory could not be read". Can anyone help? I paid quite a lot for the game considering my meagre stipend -.-.
All I wanna know is - is it a CD problem(for which I may get a replacement) or is it my PC problem? Mind you, I have the recommended game requirement specifications on my PC.

Maybe try deleting the games and download them via Steam?

How sad I liked Half life 2 a lot :P

That would mean that i paid for nothing :( . Yes I can try. But I would like to know if this is a CD problem or probably my windows being corrupt or something. If thats the case I am pretty screwed cuz I dont even know to reinstall windows (dont laugh :()

Try to replace the CD, if you still cant play it, its a PC problem, if you can play it, its a CD problem (?)

Well I figured that the problem was not with the CD and thought I would try some of the stuff I could try from google to get Half life working. But since morning I have not been able to start any game. For example when I double click on Argonath and click connect, nothing happens. Tried restarting, still no use.
I have decided to take the plunge and try and reinstall Windows XP. I do not know if my copy of XP will work. I do not know when I will be back either. I am at the mercy of my computer guy if my attempt at reinstalling XP is a fail. I am doing a clean installation. That means my SA will be gone from the hard drive. I do not have a copy of GTASA so I need to get that too. In short I may be out of action for a few days ingame.
Till then, bye bye.
