Google is making their own OS aimed at first towards notebooks. They say it should be available online later this year.
Anybody think this will be good or bad?
Discuss.

wat
they are getting fucking crazy
-
For free O=
-
With everyone calling Microsoft bad, check out how much of a giant Google has become, and this with practices that seem doubtful at times.
While 'free' the OS will probably be full of applications that check your input and will show apprpriate ads. But as its Linux and free, its not called spyware.
-
Atleast such free OS are not being hacked... you might feel somehow more secure with it.
I might try it.
-
1) Quite old.
2) I heard they took Linux OS as base LOL
3) Nah, Windows.
-
It will not work. You cannot make something competitive as Windows or Linux within a few years, it takes a much longer time than that. Even if you have a building full of coders willing to do the job in a very precize and good way, they still do not have the experience on that area. This will eventually end up in failure.
I'm happy enough with just Windows. :)
The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web.
We wouldn't want that now, would we? :D
-
Wow.. Seems windows may get some big competition... This might get interesting, i would love to see the final result.
-
uhm, no?
who has youtube and the 2nd largest online e-mail-organizer? Don't forget they also got their own internet browser, wich is in my opinion way more advanced than the internet explorer 8 (but that's my own opinion, nevertheless)
I don't say windows will make no chance, But this might get interesting over time. However i'll keep using windows 7 until google convinced me.

That has to do with web development which is different than an operating system. Look at the first windows, the first windows version I remember using was like Windows ME or Windows 98 or something like that. Now look where Microsoft has brought it with their experience. It took them many years to get things right, and with new things they still get them wrong until they have tried them. They learnt from their mistakes and made them better.
I don't know what this Google OS will be like but it probably won't be as good as it sounds until they have more experience with making OS's.

With the release, sure users will face compatibility issues with their wicked softwares.

All OS'es take time to perfectionize, as you mentioned with the Windows OS.
That's why i said "This might get interesting over time."
People more and more are getting sceptic to windows, as it's XP OS has been standard for many years, and Vista, wich did it quite bad in comparision with windows XP, people are dissapointed in windows.
People with more experience in computers than the avarage person, who have abilities to install a OS, will know Windows 7 has been way better than windows (not own opinion, just statistics), wich will be another uprise for windows on the release of 7.
However, if Windows manages to make another grand mistake on a newer OS after windows 7 is released, and if google strikes just then, There might come interest from the people that use their computer for internet based actions only, wich could make this OS for great use.
Linux could also have the same popularity, but the problem here is that, except for Ubuntu, it's way to hard to install and doesn't come with a GUI, as windows Vista etc.
.exe compability will be the only major problem stuckup here, unless they get some kind of good emulator as wine.
-
I agree with what your saying. I think the real problem that happened with Windows Vista was that they were trying something new for the first time. A new design, a new way of working things, and a new way of dealing with user interface and security. So they didn't get it right the first time, now they are trying to get it right with Windows 7. Look how long it took them to get it right with XP. Like I said they had Windows ME which was pretty bad imo, Windows 98 wasn't bad but XP surely beets both.

i can't agree more with what you're saying.. That's why it's going to be such interesting.

Watch and see.
Google OS is going to bring Linux based stuff more to the general area, and Windows + mac will slowly decrease in numbers as the Google OS is getting better and better!
Don't forget what they are doing:
3D Web applications that work smoother than others and with this OS it will be the first new generation web browser stuff OS thingy, which might get very interesting and will pull Google slowly to the top as they will be the first Next-Gen OS.
When google releases something, you should see it was an really early beta stage. In 1 year, it's more a pretty stable something. After 2 years, you can pretty much use it already. In 4-5 years, It will be stable
Google takes time and with this approach they will win the market!

this OS is not moving into Desktop or Notebooks..
its for NETbooks and tablet PC's.
for low power use. such as word processing, and itnernet browsing.
they are not taking over.
there is NO way that every single game would be recoded to work with a new OS..
95% of games are built for Windows XP +
Hardware too..
Software as well.

I think it could be the start of yet another fantastic product by Google. :)
