Title: What do you think about my english skills
Post by: Pazienza on July 16, 2009, 04:02:38 pm
Well, this could seem pathetic but, no it's not..
I've just received the results of my last English exam - Cambridge PET, and I passed with merit and an epic mark - 90 out of 100
As many may know (especially Italian people, like [R*]Luca, [R*]Husky) in Italy the only way to learn a good English is to study alone, since at school we don't practice a lot in speaking/writing English, but another way is to play an online game with English players in it. Alright, that's all..

What do you guys think about my English skills?
just to know, and also rebuke me whenever I make a mistake - this will help me a lot learning a better English

I think your English is fine man.. As long as everybody knows what you mean, there is no worry or anything. I mean, not everyone is perfect ;)

The native English are known to speak muach worse as many foreigners :D
The Scandinavians (Norway, Sweden) were the best at speaking almost flawless English I have encountered.

I wonder if Pazienza speaks like captain Bertorelli...

I was born in Sicily, the native region of the Italian mafia so.. yes I kinda speak like the people in that film, you'll clearly notice the Sicilian slang accent, if you hear me speaking Italian (even English maybe..)  :P

Yeah I know that feeling. Weirdest words for me to say is "literature" and "archeology". When you say them out loud, they just sound wrong.
If I remember it right, my English teacher said in class, that only 5% of the British population speaks the same English, that is taught to us, non-native speakers, in school. That s ocalled formal English, or standard English.

:PS:
I just have to disagree with one of your statement, that you said on your first post. I don't think that one of the way to study proper English is to study it alone. That just comes from my experience, that all languages "sticks" onto you, when you communicate with other people. I do agree with your second statement though.

I think myself as between B2 and C1 level of English speaker.

B2     Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

C1     Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

I have to have formal paper of having a B2 level of English language level in university. I would already have it, if I would have made my english A-level exam a bit better. I got 78/100 but I should have had 80/100 to have officialy B2 level. You also have to understand that the level of English that they teach in Estonia is very high like in Scandinavic countries.

Yeah British people and Aussies (Watti) suck at typing but their spoken english is good. It's vice versa for most of the foreigners.
