Title: Possible crash reason + fix?(NEW FIX!!!)Not sure though..
Post by: Biesmen on August 24, 2009, 08:38:37 pm
Well, maybe it sounds non-sense...
Maybe the crash reason is that there is something in the script that won't allow our computers to use it, recieve it, or whatever.
But maybe this won't be the reason if EVERYONE is crashing.

The fix is.. I'm not kinda sure about this, but TODAY when I 'fixed' it, I didn't had any crash for at least 2 hours, and then I logged off myself, so no crash in 2 hours today.
What do you have to do?
Alright..
You have to:

1.Click on START
2.Then click on Control Panel
2.Then you have to click on the system icon
3.Then click on Advanced Tab
4.Then you have to click on "Settings" at under performence
5.click on Data execution prevention (DEP) Tab
6.click on Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those id select
7.Click on add and then browser, then open samp.exe at the default location C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas
And then you also have to add gta_sa.exe
And Restart your computer :)

New:

What are we going to do?
We're going to allow SAMP, GTA_SA.exe to access your firewall.(We're gonna add them to your excepction list of your firewall)

Am I sure it'll work?
No

Ok this is what we have to do :
 Windows XP:
1. Click on Start
2. Then you have to open "run.lnk" or for Dutch people "Uitvoeren.lnk"
3. Then you type EXACTLY : firewall.cpl
4. Then you click on the exceptions tab.
5. Click on ADD Program and then browse.
6. Add these files:
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\samp.exe and
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\gta_sa.exe

 Windows Vista:
1. Click on Start.
2. Enter "run" or for the Dutch people "Uitvoeren" at the search bar.
3. Type EXACTLY: firewall.cpl
4. Then you see a menu(navigation bar) on the left, and you choose the second option:
(Maybe not translated well) Allow a program via Windows Firewall.
5. Then you see 3 tabs, click on the 2nd one "Exceptions".
6. Then you click on "Add Program(s)"
7. Then click on Browse and add these files:
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\samp.exe and
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\gta_sa.exe

And then you're done.

I hope this works..

When DEP shuts down a program, there usually is a message, something like: "DEP has turned off ***" etc... I had this issue with a BitTorrent client. I can crash like once per five hours, only whether I stay at my house in SF, though.

Has anyone tried and could that person tell us if it works or not? (Other than Biesmen)

Not really, I crashed a lot with games, and it just gave a normal disconnect error, or crash error.

Not working
tested..

Thanks, but it's kinda strange you get a crash already.
Normally you get it after 1 hour.

Maybe some others should also test it o.o
I'm not even sure if it's totally fixed at myself..
If this won't work, I don't know anything else anymore.

I'm 100% sure that it has nothing to do with people their firewall, that it's blocking the game.

Okay thanks, requesting lock so people won't try it anymore if it won't help.

I'll maybe try to look further, but I'm almost 100% sure it's something that has to do with the script :(

I'd rather bet that it's the SAMP client that crashes.

It's the SAMP Client cuz these crashes occur on every SAMP server, just not as often as on Argonath

Okay, then I can try to do something else..
But then you have to make it as exception in your firewall, but that won't solve it, I think, since not all firewalls block this..

But I'll post the other way..

DEP is a security to prevent damage from malicious code. DEP will not shutdown gta-sa.exe because no malicious code inside of it. this will not work.

The one still wonder in my mind is, are another server running on Windows or Linux machine.

The main causes of crashes are due to the slight instability of the SA-MP client, some scripting issues here and there in RS4 and also, the most overlooked problem - modifications to your GTA SA.

Sure, these little fixes may help a bit, but they are more like a walk around the problem itself.  I'll give this a try later on though.
