Title: Need for Speed: Shift | The (new) real driving simulator?
Post by: Caltson on September 18, 2009, 05:45:12 pm
"EA starts from scratch and comes up winning big."
                                                          - I.G.N.

The newest Need for Speed game has been released. After undercover and pro street it couldn't go worser in my opinion, but Shift really did surprised me. I'm going to get the game soon.
What do you think about it?

Same Wash, very bad steering, it's very realistic compare the other NFS's. I like the game, but I won't play it offen.

The game is very good with a Steering USB PC Wheel.... i will give it a shot in like 3 days if I buy it or get given [borowed] by a friend who will buy it..

and no it's not an Race Driver Grid clone... i love Grid... but it has no same graphics or gameplay.... Grid has many more features than this from what i've heard and seen while playing it.... i love freestyle drift arenas.... drifting... the damage on cars... the camera view when you go fast.... but still no.... NFS: Shift has nothing to do with Grid :)

I am just waiting to test it... and then say...

simulator , eh ?

I'l see in 1y./ few years if its really a simulator, i really doubt it.

I just cant bare that you can still drive like a maniac crashing into every wall / oponents car without any serious damage.... Big minus for simulator !

If you crash frontal and hard your car can become total loss i believe.
Also the drifting is just amazing good and very realistic.

1) attempt to crash into a wall irl (http://www.audiklubas.com/forumas/Smileys/default/new_hyper.gif) , i dont think your car wil be able to drive after a crash of crash speeds on 100/120 km/h
2) as always the track is like melted butter and small chance of slipping of.

This is NFS Shift on maximum graphics settings.

Highest detail on everything, full AA, high resolution.

GRID beats Shift hands down when it comes to graphics. D:

Those graphics are terrible.

Also, I played Pro Street a couple of weeks ago, the gameplay was awful...

If you really want a driving simulator, get Gran Turismo, which has always been the Real Driving Simulator.

I Played almost every Need for speed, from The need for speed to undercover, and honestly, this one is the most realistic one, might have the style of Grid, but the FX and cars and others, way better. Its very difficult, because a lot changed compare to the other parts, but i am still the cop freak.,so 7/10 :)
Title: Re: Need for Speed: Shift | The (new) real driving simulator?
Post by: Niitro on September 20, 2009, 08:53:49 pm
I have played this game, and there are some things I need to say ...
First of all, if you dont have a steering wheel, DONT buy this game, couse the keyboard controls are so fucking annoying, it's like, I press left and suddenly the car is sideways on a straight bit of road, evin with a steering wheel it feels so remote, like youre not really controlling it, just telling which side to go to ... :/
The graphics, I couldn't play it on all teh MAX settings, couse I only has a laptop, but evin on Medium/High settings It was great ...
Car damage, It's OK, but GRID has so much more realistic crashes ...
I really like the varety of cars, and the high deatail of 'em ...
BUT, Is it a real simulator?, like i saw an interwiev on youtube with guy from EA, and he was telling, that SHIFT would be going up against Gran Turismo ...
NEVER ! This game doesent feels like a simulator at all, just another touring-car game ... :|

But thats my opinion, others may think different ... ...... :)

All NFS's after MW have been rubbish, and I'm afraid to say, that SHIFT doesent change anything ...

To be honest, I'm starting to like this game.. D-:

After a while of playing it, you kinda get the point of it.

I don't see it in anyway as a Driving Sim, but as a normal NFS.. (except that the handling is a little too realistic to be a full NFS.)

Post by: Traser on September 20, 2009, 11:06:31 pm
You can control the ammount of damage, do that at the options menu :).

I can run everything on high with x8 AA. :)
So Graphics are 1337 ;)

Will post some nice screens soon :D

Yeah, graphics do suck. They're like as good as MW.

I think NFS Underground had better graphics than this.
Title: Re: Need for Speed: Shift | The (new) real driving simulator?
Post by: Caltson on September 21, 2009, 10:00:45 pm
It's not all about the graphics, it's about the game. GRID is awesome, but when you look to the driving you'll notice Shift goes way smoother then GRID.
Prostreet and Undercover were just terrible. Glad Shift filled the hole.

Ok, I love the GRAPHICS of the new NFS but i dont like the GAMEPLAY of it anymore.
I stopped loving NFS since NFSU2. IMO NFSU2 Was the best, it was streetracingish, it has a nice theme, and i still remember it, i sing it everytime when i drive my dads car.. riders on the storm... dododo. anyways back on topic, now they are making the tracks/gameplay as if the streetrace is legal. it is VERY boring when u dont have cops behind your tail or streetracing in a public road with civillians vehicles as 'obstacles'. IMO now they are just doing it for fun, and to get money by people buying their games.

Streetracing and Circuits are different games, i know. But it doesn't really get boring.
By the way i just love the cockpit view. It made me crash so many times when i was looking at the car instead of the road

Isnt a driving simulator one of those games where it stimulates real driving and is as realistic as possible? Like... Let's say... Richard Burns Rally Simulator. Go play that game with a steering wheel and then come see me, look deeply in my eyes and tell me need for speed shift is a 100% driving simulator :p

I believe there is a EA Windows Live thing.. although you cannot play online if you have a illegal copy of NFS: Shift.

You don't have to have an illegal copy to know that game producers are trying to get some more cash by discouraging piracy through limiting the online side of the game on the illegal copy.

Okey, so I have been playing this game for couple of hours now, I bought the first available BMW with the 40k start cash, won couple of races and tuned it, soon gonna get a new car, so suggest me guys a good Tier 2 car, and I'd like it to be less than 80k, I will collect total of 100k, around 20k for tuning.

I think the one I picked was the.. Audi RS4 or the Nissan GTR SpecV but I'm not completly sure.

If it was that one, then it was mind-blowingly fast. I remember whilst playing on Tier 2, the other guys had no chance against me.

Bought the game yesterday. It really worth the price, really.
On Tier 3, the guys can't stand the power of my lime green Lamborgini Murcielago fully upgraded. I spend like half of million upgrading that piece of garbage.

When I entered on Tier 2, I bought the Camaro. But, to be honest, it doesn't worth that much. It's damn pretty car, but it's too heavy, even if you install the weight reducer. So ahm... around 80k you can buy a Skyline. It's 70k and it's a good car indeed. After a few updates and tuning, will be even better. (:

Try doing other races than Time Attack. I opened Tier 3 without going to any drift race at tier 2. lolz
Try to earn the "extra stars" on the races. Those that you earn when you reach a certain amount of points doing precise and agressive moves.

(:

Did you do the Works upgrade?

I did. :)

The Lamborghini is the fastest car in the game with the works upgrade, I think.. :D

WRONG :D
The Corvette is :D

I've found that they're actually the same speed, but I prefer the Lambo's handling to the Corvette's. American cars suck at going around corners, unfortunately. I have the best cars in the game though, anyway. :)

My car gallery(takes too long for forum to upload):

I'm guessing, if I sold all the cars I would have about $7,000,000.. :D
All cars have full tuning + works upgrade, apart from the Zonda R. The Zonda R does not take upgrades. :(

I'd like to see what galleries other people have, so please post your gallery, so I can humiliate you with my awesomeness. :D

Lambo is definitely faster, as is the Viper. Corvette has rubbish handling, which is worse than that of the already crap handling of the Works cars like the Lambo and Dodge Viper.

I'm at Tier 3 and I'm using the Lamborghini Murciélago LP640, it's fully upgraded :D. I have problems with two extra stars; Spinning four opponents (keeps saying drafted or knocked out the race) and getting all the corners right. What I really like is those Car Battles. Those events are the hardest. You really need to take all the corners fast if you want to win.

I have some tips for those who are having difficulties:

- Change the camera view.
- Follow the line and keep your eye on the colors that are changing.
- You are able to stay on full speed on the first few red lines before a turn.
- When you start to take a turn, move left/right BEFORE you start accelerating in the corner so you can initiate a little drift.

im a precision driver, but i still get aggressive wen im not in first place, drifting really helps me catch up, i drift a car and then spin it off the track

... Apperantly my network isn't a good friend with EA Nation (the online service for Need for Speed: Shift) making me unable to play the game online...
It's a damn shame i'm going to turn it back into the store.. It was a damn good game apart from that connection error..

Have you heard of NFS: MW, NFS: Carbon, NFS: Undercover..? You can get cops on your ass in all of them. In NFS: U2, if I remember correctly there were no cops, and if there were there were very little of them. They're obviously going to make games that get people to buy them, otherwise they would go completly bankrupt.. You know, these developers do tonnes of research before they make a game. I think a 12 year old boy who over-uses 'IMO' and doesn't even know half the crap he's on about does not really affect them. When EA spend millions of dollars to create a game, I should think they know what the fuck they're on about and whether it would sell or not.

yeah, EA always milks most of their games, but NFS shift isnt too bad, give it a chance :)

Ok, I just downloaded the demo on to my PlayStation 3 and played it, I'll compare it to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which I have.

I also used my Logitech Driving Force GT to play the game, this wheel is probably the best around behind the Logitech G25 and G27.

First of all, the graphics is poor compared to Gran Turismo, the presentation, the menus, the fonts, the whole game dosen't feel realstic in terms of graphics. The game-play and driving physics, however, are decent, they have definatly improved from the last couple of NFS games, I also love the addition of the Spa track, that track is a very challanging and pleasing track to drive on, especially when your using a steering wheel.

Overall after playing the demo, the physics and graphics are not as good as Gran Turismo, but NFS is starting to get their, it looks to me that they rushed the game more then anything.

EA have made some good advances this year, hopefully in the next game they will perfect the gameplay and graphics, but there will be real stiff competition with Gran Turismo 5 full release, because that is looking to be the best racing game of all time.

Even though the game has its downsides, I would still recommend it.

I also can't wait, but Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will do for now, its the most realistic driving experience I've ever had, also has 60 cars, 5 tracks, each track has a reverse option, 4 classes of races, also lets you unlock the Ferrari F1 2007. ;)

The release of Gran Turismo 5 is March 31, 2010, this date could be changed, but thats what its currently on course for.
