Title: Brand new laptop hangs, Fast Help please, school work waiting!
Post by: Janar on September 24, 2009, 06:49:34 pm
My sister got a new laptop last week, Acer Aspire One with 11.6 inch display. Today, he told me that it has hanged many times since she got it. He was writing her school text once, second time she was reading news, when it hanged. Only main programs, like FireFox, Microsoft Office, Winamp and Windows Live Messenger work, no else. She is getting pissed off, as hanging ruins her school work! And only thing that helps, is holding power button down for 5 seconds. So, she needs help. I ran out of ideas, so i am requesting help. The faster the help comes, the better it is, as she needs to do her school work.

I don't know what "hang" really means but I think like random shut down..
I think formatting the PC would help, if you don't want to, contact the seller. :)

If its new take it back to shop, faulty motherboard can cause hangups, also you can try to get a heat monitoring software and keep eye on temp but thats low chance of why its hanging, from that post my best guess is faulty motheboard

It's the RAM i guess..

if he has a  " hang " it must be a HDD problem (( only if it hangs temporarily ofc ))

Did you install all Windows Updates  and drivers (( audio etc ..... ))

do you have Vista ??? if yes downgrade to Win XP i recommend because i didn't have any problems like that in years

My laptop does too. I bought it this summer, not new. A few years on the neck.
It's randomly start hanging and making noices just without reason.
Yet I haven't tried formatting it. I will...some day, but at the moment I have no real use for it. It's just on the ground, beneath my bed taking some dust.

But try to formatting it if not done that already.
Might help. And get a proper virus program, it might be a virus?

Off-topic: Where's the post hunter Markus!?

Yes, it is a notebook.
It has XP.
It hangs so, that it needs to be turned off and turned on again.
We will take it back to shop, let's see if they fix it or no.

Just take it to the vender Janar and explain the situation, there is like 1 year garantee + or something like that for laptops.
