Title: d-Link. Opinions?
Post by: Gird3r on September 29, 2009, 08:58:51 pm
Okay, I'm going to say this. I had no problems with the DI-524 wireless router when we got it. It had worked perfectly, but recently we was forced to unplug it and replug it more and more to have a functioning internet.

And today, is what made me very frustrated.

First, the router dies and throw everyone out. Okay, we did a power reset.

It takes 5 minutes, and then it throws me out again.

And then windows refuse to connect to the network, even if it was found in avaible wireless networks.

I tought: Hey, maybe I can use a wired cable, plug it into the router, and acces the setup that way to fix it.

So that's what I did, I got the login panel. I try to get into the admin panel... And hell breaks loose.

First, the page loads VEEEERY slowly, and this is strange because i'm on a 100 Mbit network cable... right??

And then it stops loading..

I "retry" to get into the admin panel, now the login windows won't appear at all.

So I tought: What the hell?

After some estensive looking at the problem, I concluded this:

The normal network cables work as they should, but the wireless is screwed up. It shows up when I search for it, but I can't connect to it.
And as to make me think that dlink sucks even more, the router actually "laggs" when on wired connection.

And sometimes it just stops taking in information from the ISP all togheter.

What the hell?

The DWL-G112 usb wireless that I have seems to have no problems at all. But the router is seriosly screwed when it comes to accesing the admin panel and trying to connect to it's wireless.

Lucky for us, my dad did not buy it for so extremly much (around 57 USD, 400 kr)

But it was still quite some money, and now I have found out that D-link has very very very bad reviews about the company (unhappy consuments, does not refund, acts very immature etc).

I have always tought that d-link was among the best providers for wireless routers.

Opinions are greatly needed.

I changed router only because of this problem you have. We had a D-link (xxx) that was good on beginning but soon enough we got internet fails. Most because of a computer that downloading. I recommends you to buy a Netgear WNR2000, I'm using it and it works perfectly!

Regards Al.

We reseted it to factory and then just ignored putting a password on it.

I will secretly (without dad knowing) buy us a much much better router. It will be more expensive, but we can't have a shitty router that we need to reset every week...
Edit:

Does anybody know any good Wireless router that's trustable? It must have good encryption support, and other obligatory stuff for a home wireless router.

Budget is around 83 Usd.

You got same router as my for 700 crowns and it's trust-able. My friends recommendation this router and the company Netgear. From MicroShop(a company) said that D-link had some heavy years an wasen't really good this days and it's why we bought the new one.

Anyway, Netgear for life, Never any troubles and you can download all the days!! D:
