Title: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Post by: Chase on October 07, 2009, 11:24:55 pm
It just released in the US today, and it comes out in Europe on October 9th. I just bought me a copy and this game is bad ass so far.

Here's description from Gamestop:

Quote
The island of Skira has been a disputed territory since the end of World War II. Officially, it falls under the sovereignty of the Russian Federation, but a U.S. and Japanese presence has been there following the discovery of extremely rich and viable oil fields. On September 23rd at 0800 hours, under the guise of ensuring his people's prosperity, General Zheng ordered an airborne division of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) to execute a lightning invasion, claiming Skira Island for the People's Republic. As you are aware, the Russian Federation has requested U.S. military support. In response, the USS Iwo Jima has been deployed. You and your fellow Marines should expect to engage scattered but heavily entrenched PLA positions. Our success on Skira could avert total war on the mainland.

Here's a trailer.

The real Operation Flashpoint sequels are ARMA/ARMA 2.

How does this compare to those games?

I play it atm, I like it :)

On of the better shooters in years, and realistic!

This is a regular shooter with effects of realism. Giving it 4.1 out of 5.

If you compare it to OFP, and look this as it's sequel, more than 1 out of 5 i just can't give.....Anyway, it's still a good shooter.

this ain't a 'shooter' in my opinion, more something strategical.

Keep in mind IF you buy this game, this game IS NOT a shooter!
It's a 'war simulator', meaning, if you get hit by a bullet, you're dead. No revivals, no..

If you need to choose from ArmA, OFP DR and BF2, buy BF2 believe me....
If you're multiplayer fanboy, BF2. OFP DR is so lagging in Multiplayer, even my nerves couldn't resist.
And ArmA just sucks...

Arma does not suck.

If you're an OFP fan you'll like ARMA/ARMA 2.

Not this piece of shit game, just shares the same name due to the fact that they didn't own the copyright. (BIS)

With all her lags and graphic of first ofp!?

ARMA does not have the same graphics, I haven't played ARMA 2, but its graphics are even better looking than ARMA.

One thing I like about ARMA is that the gameplay is relatively unchanged, the only issues I've had with ARMA/OFP is that the guns are not animated (no animated parts, pistol slides do not move) and other issues concering some animations such as vehicle doors ETC. Despite this they are pretty good games, best realistic shooters I've played, not to mention the modding community of the games.

This is a really good game, played on co-op with DarkRaven and Winters, and really enjoyed it. I'd give this game 4/5

Just incase anyone is wondering, you don't have to buy this game to play MP.

You can download it and you can play along side anyone else who has paid for it. :D

No. D:

It's with nearly all of Codemaster's games. GRID is the same, you can play online whether you have a ripped game, or whether you bought it. epix.
