Title: [Solved]Computer Problem
Post by: BKP on November 06, 2009, 04:47:25 pm
Hello,
Since 2-3 days ago my computer started to be slower. It takes 5 minutes to turn on, 3 minutes for Far Cry 2 to load, And GTA IV won't load anymore( I've waited 30minutes) Before this everything was running nice and fast.

I have a GeForce GTS250 1GB DDR3, an Intel Pentium Dual Core E5400 2,70GHz, and 2GB of RAM.

Installed programs recently?

Check your task manager, and see what the CPU Activity % is BEFORE you start a game.

Well I've installed Bit Defender Internet Security 2010(I deleted it)
And CPU Usage is 30-40% , System Idle Process using it the most(60-70) And Google Chrome(30-40)

EDIT : I just saw that the CPU Usage is increasing when posting a new reply (i think it's because of the emoticons)

Did you change anything else when this occured? Installed updates? Drivers?

Also if you have desktop, when was the last time you checked inside your case for dust? :P

I didn't change anything. No updates or drivers.

And about the dust, I bought the PC 3 weeks ago and my house is not in the desert , so I don't think it has dust.

I will run a virus scan tonight

I live don't live in desert either, and need to clean PC up like every month... Otherwise, it just get too much dust..
Check what processes are using your CPU mostly.. If you have Vista, you may have WMP bug, it makes your CPU load go up to 100%.. ( I had it, using Winamp resolved it)

I have Windows XP.  And like I said, there is something called System Idle Process wich uses the CPU. I will check for dust too.

Also if you have time to dust out your case weekly.Keep the case door open so more air can flow through. If you open it though dust increase will happen, but I found my CPU in my newer PC(same CPU.Intel 3.9Ghz Pentium DUo's) runs cooler and actually a small bit faster. This went the same for my video card(diff ones though). One last thing, before opening GTA,Fear,Halo etc. open Task Manger and close uneeded programs and processes.

Temperature start effecting to performance when over 80-90 celcius degrees.. When it start throttling.. Under 80, you see no difference..

Dude Open Task Manger (alt+ctrl+delete)
And close all processes that you dont need like programes ...etc
And then open gta iv and it gonna work

Or reinstall New windows it gonna fix everything
sometimes we dont know where is the problem but new windows gonna fix it but make sure that you install anti virus.

You have been living under a rock? Installing new windows may not resolve the problem.
