Title: How to Reduce lagg.
Post by: Rick. on December 18, 2009, 04:41:45 am
I know somewhat ways to Reduce lagg.

1. Get a game booster
2. Get a C-Cleaner and clean all your junky Files.
3. Go to your options on the San Andreas menu.
4. Buy a new Harddrive
5. Buy more Ram for your Computer.
6. Get the NVIDEA or ATI Graphics card, IF you do not have it.
7. Internet connection
8. ram
9. Video Card
10. Close up all Programs You dont need.
11. Decrease your ping.
12. Un-install copcarla.dff and copcarla.txd  <-- ( IF you have this Mod ) ( But do not get it, It'll Fuck your game up. )

Ill update this When i figure out more.

If you have any more, just post and ill add.

3) Rather obvious, no?
4) Buying a new hard drive does absolutely next to nothing for lag.
6) It's spelled NVIDIA, and it's not the only graphics card in the world, you know?

Can someone trash this topic please? It's bullshit.

Hard drive can make difference.. It's just like 1-10 FPS max..
2Gb is enough for any game made so far.
NVidia or ATi, there are no more..

Intel and some other laptop graphics cards are also, which i don't remember atm, but i know there is.

No, ATI are a much cheaper manufacturer of graphics cards as apposed to NVIDIA.

Hard drive can make difference.. It's just like 1-10 FPS max..
The standard hard drive is at 7200RPM, I think. Then there's 10,000RPM, and there's SSD. To get that FPS boost, you'll have to spend a ridiculous amount of money to get an FPS boost of 10(max, as you said). You're better off buying a graphics card. The advice on buying a hard drive does therefore not make sense, to the human that has a brain.

By the way, if you have Dual Core processor and experience lag, make sure your GTA SA is directed to use both cores, not just one.

I'm playing it on 1 of 2 cores and I am experiencing no lag whatsoever on max settings at 1280x800x32

Never been thinking about that to get the game work better, how do i do it?

When having lagg, first check the folowing:

- What programs are running ? Close down as many programs as possible, especially if they use your internet connection.

- What is your ping ? If your ping is above 100, you will have lagg no matter what you have in hard- and software. Ping can go up if multiple programs are using your internet, see point 1.

Please note that lagg of players does influence the whole server, so try to keep your ping as low as possible.

Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to Task Manager. Right click on gta_sa.exe while it's running, and select Set Affinity. Note though, that this may require to you to log into the Administrator account of your Operating System. (not same as having administrator rights)

I wouldn't suggest that for people who don't use a Dual Core Optimizer because they might have the game work like a speedhack.
So before using it on both cores, you should get the dual core optimizer (search google).

And what makes you think that? Firstly, it doesn't effect the game properties itself. Secondly, Dual Core Optimizer is only for AMD processors.

Sorry, i meant for the AMD processors which have Dual Core, because from my experience i had that problem, and i am just suggesting that any AMD user should use that.

Little question.. I used to have a strict 100-200 (top) ping while playing on the server. For some reason though my ping jumps from 100 to 300 to 400 to 250 145 and so on and so fourth, while playing there are sometimes "bursts" of lag while I'm just driving around where the game acts slow and my ping skyrockets +200 (causing it to become 300-400). Any way to help prevent this? :/

Well, do you have any programs running in the background? When you say game acts slow, you mean lag or like, connection lag?
Do you use wireless internet?

Most of the time I do not have programs running in the background, I try to close firefox before going ingame to solve the problem. The only programs that would be running would be NOD32, TS. I'm pretty sure it's game lag. And yes.

Any specific areas where this happens?I had a similar problem with lag when I approach near LS my ping would rocket up to 600ms
If this is your type of problem contact your operator if you have a closed port,Maybe torrent in taskbar or something?Do F5 InGame and take screen so we can see...

I've fixed it by reconnecting all the router cables....I've done it by a mad mans inspiration ripping all the cables out  :D

What do you mean by contacting my operator and getting my ports not closed? O.o but yes, I do not lag when, for example, just driving around a deserted area as well as interiors. As soon as I step out of the interior though and there's a lot of people and cars I lag badly and my ping skyrockets +100-200 ping. Torrent in taskbar? Whats that? :o

Yes you have the same problem as I had.... :D
What I meant with the operator support is that you need to ask them if you have a port blocked towards GTA server lolololol
Or try this

Draw Distance = MAX
AA = 3
Resolution = MAX (32-bit)
Visual FX Quality = low

if you have a great graphic card , then yes (you may go ahead and set the "Visual FX Quality" on HIGH ) - IDK if this is connected with this kind of lag

Did you try /fpslimit cmd?

If the bursts of lag only last for a few seconds, then it sounds like FPS lag due to no limiting, but if they last for more then that, then it sounds like overheating (I'm assuming you're still using your laptop).

FPS Lag:
GTA:SA Display Settings
Frame Limiter - On (needed for /fpslimit to work)

/fpslimit
You need to use a program like Fraps (http://fraps.com/), so that you can see your FPS (frames per second) while playing. Basically, evaluate what your FPS averages as during game play, then set /fpslimit to slightly under that number. This is to prevent the lag that occurs when something happens during game play (loading new textures or objects for example), that your computer can't handle at the FPS you were previously on.
Overheating:
To confirm if it's overheating, you'd need to get a program like RivaTuner, so that you can monitor your temperatures, during game play. RivaTuner is quite good for this, because it features an in game display, which can be enabled by tuning the settings.

That wouldn't cause Vince's game to slow down as well, only increase his ping. However, there's a chance of having two different problems that happen occur simultaneously (one affecting FPS, and another affecting ping).

Very good Information, Hope more Information keeps coming.
Well, if you want more tips, then I might as well show you the entire post.

GTA:SA Display Settings
Draw Distance - Minimum
Frame Limiter - On (needed for /fpslimit to work)
Visual FX Quality - Low
Anti Aliasing - Off
Resolution - As low as possible, at 16 bit

Low Quality Mod
The following mod (http://www.mediafire.com/?0mdzxlbwlyc) includes some lower quality textures and effects that replace the default ones.

Task Manager Priority
While the game is running, ALT+TAB to your desktop, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open your Task Manager, go to the tab that says Processes, loot for gta_sa.exe, right click on it, choose priority, and set the priority as high as possible. Depending on your computer configuration, setting it as Realtime may sometimes lead to minor issues, such as the sound cutting out from time to time. If you experience said problems, then just set the priority to the level before Realtime.

Game Booster
A program that increases game performance by disabling unneeded processes and services during game play. It can be downloaded here (http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html).

NVIDIA Control Panel
Assuming you don't already have the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to the NVIDIA website (http://www.nvidia.com), check out the driver section, and download the latest one that supports your graphics card. In installing the latest driver, you're also installing the NVIDIA control panel, as it's all included. Since I'm not absolutely certain on the control panel version that you'd have, this is just a general guide with reference to the version that I'm using. Open the control panel (can be done by right clicking on a blank space on your desktop, then selecting NVIDIA Control Panel), make sure advanced view is selected (if relevant), go to the 3D settings and there should be something with reference to managing the 3D settings for particular programs. If it's not already there, add GTA:SA to the program list, then configure settings that are available. Each setting should show a detailed description, so for the most part, it shouldn't be too difficult to figure what you should change in order to increase performance. Some things to make sure you turn off are Anisotropic Filtering, Anti Aliasing and Vertical Sync.
About the NVIDIA Control Panel part, that's obviously for NVIDIA users only, but I think ATI users would have some sort of interface as well, so they may be able to take similar actions. The post was originally intended for someone who happened to have an NVIDIA GeForce 440MX 64MB.

The Main Options to make your GTA working faster would be just :

1)C-Cleaner - clean all computer up
2)Put all GTA options (in the game) to minimum (like resolution 640*800...etc)
3)And close all programs that you dont need while playing (open Task Meneger (Ctrl+Alt+Delite), than Processes > And I reccomend you not to close everything except GTA :) its gona shut your comp down or/and even break, just close such progs as "exploler(it will close the desktop, to open it press new task>search>computer>local disk:C>windows>exploler.exe", close sidebar (if it Vista or W7), some small programms that is not related to the mother board.

And thats it. Go ahead and play :)

P.S. I used to do it 1 year ago, when I had stupid computer. For now I dont even think of it (even GTA IV working non-stop  )
