Okay so yesterday I tried to start up Bioshock, which has worked perfectly before, but now this happens:
I start up the game, there's suppose to come a little Bioshock "window" but it doesn't show up.
I wait for a while, my CPU usage is jumping around 50% like I would be playing the game.
I go check the task manager and I see the Bioshock.exe is running, I shut it down and my CPU usage goes back to normal.
The game does not start up. Although, it is running in task manager and using my CPU.
I've already tried to restart the game many times and reboot my computer, does not work.
How can I fix this?

Tried re-installing? :)

Tried re-installing? :)
Tried, didn't work.
-
Try to make a system restore to earlier point, when it was still working.

Ehh... I've cleared the points, which I do pretty often :S

D:
Then i'm afraid I cant help you. :(

So it's worked before? Well move the whole user files folder out of "My Documents" and then try it again. Used any trainers, cheats etc.?
-
Bioshock will have problems running on older video card drivers. Make sure you are using the latest one.
If you use an Ati card then you need to Download a hot fix or something

Yeah it has worked before, I've almost finished the game. And I'm not using any trainers or cheats and moving the user files didn't help.

I have nVidia GeForce 8500 GT and the latest drivers.

Then I don't really know....Because there are some Ati Hot fixes for this game that could solve your problem but as you have nVidia I don't know

Problem : Bioshock wont start. I get stuck at the Bioshock logo or after it.
Solution : this is an audio device initialization problem so you need to twink the audio settings in bioshock’s default.ini
Edit your default.ini. Put a semi-colon in front of AudioDevice=FMODAudio.FMODAudioSubsystem, and add the following line right after it:
AudioDevice=D3DDrv.D3DAudioDevice
After edits, that part of the config file should look like this:
;AudioDevice=FMODAudio.FMODAudioSubsystem
AudioDevice=D3DDrv.D3DAudioDevice

That didn't work either.
The Bioshock logo isn't even appearing for me. When I double-click on the Bioshock.exe it seems to load for few seconds, but nothing happens.
Here's what is happening in task manager:

try this one?
Problem : Instant crash when running Bioshock.exe on windows XP AFTER the game working fine for some time( So you have saved games etc)
Solution : Manually delete (or move) the WHOLE “bioshock†folder in “my documents†on windows XP (this is your saved games folder etc).
Now run Bioshock.exe. The game should run.
You will lose your progress but you can play again from the start.

I have tried that too :(
-
How about getting Bioshock 2? :D
-
What about... Well just make the whole user files folder into a big .rar or .zip archive, send it to the recycle bin without emptying it of course, then re-installing the game and then replacing the folder?
