Why didn't Costa Rica invade the US During WW2? I ask myself this question every night before I went to bed. I pondered myself over it.
Until a few dasy ago when I bought Hearts of Iron 3. I clicked "1938" for the year and I clicked the tiny country of Costa Rica.
I built up my technologies for a year, until I saw Panama mobolising near my borders! I shit bricks! They were guarenteed independence by the USA and the US was allied with them!
I quickly built up my armies at the Panama-Costa Rica border. About 2 months later, Panama joined the Allies. I had built up my radar technology so I could see where everyone's armies were. The country above me was a tiny country that I'd never heard of before...The perfect target!
I quickly mobilised at their border and launched an invasion - taking them over within 1 week. I then stopped, turned around and went after Panama...I took Panama and I even took some US-Owned land at the Panama Canal! I split my army into 2 and sent half to the top part of South America and send the other half to continue with invading towards the USA. I took the top half of South America, and by the time I finished that, my other army had reached Mexico. I then made allies with the rest of South America, effectively putting South America against North America. I then invaded 1/4 of Mexico when they surrnedered to me! Annex them, I chose. Muahahah. I was right next to the US Mainland. I mobilised some troops in North Mexico and some near Texas. I then begun my invasion of the USA. I took them by surprise and I got past Houston in Texas, then I got the entire western coast of the USA.
I then begun to advance inland. I still had little resistance. Suddently 3 of my divisions lost their strength and were thrown out of the invasion. They ran back to San Jose' and begun to reinforce themselves.
At this moment, the US invasion is continuing. Once the US has surrendered to me, I will continue into Canada. Once that's done, I'll cross the Pacific and take Australia and New Zealand. Once that's done, I think I might give Japan some of it's own medicine, then move through the Middle East, finishing with taking over Europe and then Africa.
Who'd of though Costa Rica could pack such a punch? Obviously not even America thought so.
This is an epic game where you can be any country and do whatever you want. You could be Britain and invade the USA. You could be Denmark and invade Germany, taking all their troops away from invading Franca to defending you. You could be Greece, invading Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, assisting in the taking over of Eastern Soviet Union, then attacking Turkey and getting owned. You could be South Africa, and take over all of Africa then move onto Europe. You could be Australia and take over the phillipines, Indeonesia and move onto Japan. I've tried all of these - some worked well, some failed miserably. Technology being researched is the key to winning. Building effective armies is the second most important thing. Sending spies into enemy countries to distrupt their research is a lesser part of the game but also a key part. Maintaining satisfaction in your own country and maintaining relations with other countries also keep things in balance.
The possibilites of this game are endless - it's made its way into my favourite games and I seriously reccomend anyone with a few dollars lying around to go out and buy this game. Oh, did I mention it has Multiplayer capibilities? :D

Ah, I could have picked you out as a HoI player. It's the kind of strategic game I could easily imagine you pwning at :D

You know how un-realistic it is? Hearts of Iron series are usually quite realistic, that made me also wonder, about Hearts Of Iron 3, when I saw that for example Finland joined the Allies. I mean be real, you know who else joined Allies side to smash Germany? Switzerland.

I made Germany attack Switzerland and Italy joined in and owned Switzerland haha...I like that you can make anything happen.
