Title: ISP Blocked, What do I do?
Post by: Todor on January 04, 2010, 12:15:05 pm
Allright so Opal Telecom, my internet provider, was banned by the main server admins. What are my options - I can't change the supplier because nobody else gets a phone line to where I am. I would really like to play on Argonath SAMP because I've devoted over 300 hours of my life to this comunity. Effectively what happened is that main admins gave me a big "F off". So please - help me sort this mess out.

Yeah Mobile broadband might be limited to hours you can use it per month but least you'd get online again.

Even the 1gig per month ones cost a goddamned fortune. I can't afford 15 quid a month to play SAMP  :( I mean I sure can afford it but it doesn't make any sense.

Well if you want to play again your going to have to find another ISP or play at someone else's house who doesn't use Opal Telecom.  Surely whatever your paying now for Broadband will be the same or even cheaper with another ISP.

depending on the scripts/abilities of the dedicated server, couldn't they route block either side of your ip, eg 192.168.2.X>=2 assuming you're 192.168.2.1

I thought about it but I can't change that, can I? It's up to the admins to decide.

Opal Telecom should be aware of the reason they are blocked.
Talk to them and let them know they could lose customers unless they start to take reports seriously.

Yeah, he did say that ^^

Call TalkTalk and tell them about it, if they do not do anything write a formal letter and give them 14 days to take action and reply. If nothing still happens, call the fair traders ombudsman. If that is not available/nothing happens threaten legal action within 28 days, if they do not do anything.

Why would his parents change ISP so their kid could play some online game?

Exactly.

I'm paying the internet bill. British Telecom asked for 120 quid to install a new line, Talk Talk for 'just' 70 so I went for their stupid ass. If I had paid the 120 for the new BT line and then went for Virgin Media it would've all been allright. I don't feel like paying an extra 120 for a NEW, new line.

Todor, It has been banned because Junaid was stealing accounts and that is noted as a crime. Opal Telecom has been contacted many times but they did not respond to their reports. As others said. Contact them to take their reports seriously.

If you can not change your ISP. This is your only chance.

Finally a decent explanation. Okay, I'll see what I can do.

If playing an online game means so much to you then pay the money to get a new bloody ISP.

Virgin Media. Faster than shitty TalkTalk, but up to you if you're going to switch

I find this incredibly unfair really, im looking into this to check on if the ISP really can take action against someone because they are hacking accounts, i really think that they are going to spend time, money and resources on a game because 1 person has been hacking accounts. Also Argonath as i belive is not a publically traded company and has little to no legal representation in a global business market, thus has no legal representation in a business market.

Another thing SA:MP is not a copyrighted program becasluse it is considered a Mod and uses already copyrighted material owned by rockstar games. What the owners of Argonath are doing is punishing the ISP for something tay they legal don't have to respond to. After some research into the issue I have come across a fact that unless Argonath contacts Opal Telecoms through the use of a lawyer or other form of legal representation, they do not have to take action.

I doubt argonath would spend the time and money on hiring legal help in an issue such as this, which is why I belive that they should not find the same attitude from Opal Telecoms of any suprise.

Todor I hope you resolve this issue and hopefully Argonath will stop complainig about Opals customer service and focus on their own.

I realize that, however unless they tale the legal action and get representation then Opal does not have to respond because the server is not hosted using the Opal ISP. Another thing is that argonath blocks the ISP because Opal is showing bad customer support and not dealing with the issue. Argonath is also doing the same thing, abandoning a bunch of loyal players, who, as in Todors case can't afford to change ISPs. In managment and business the number one rule when owning a business is that the customer is always right, think about if you donate to argonath and then realize that you have been blocked because of something that does not relate to you at all, that is bad customer service.

Another thing is that Since Aeginath does not run using the Opal ISP, Opal is going to require validation through a legal representative that Aeginath is indeed owned by who it says it is.

Another thing is that the hacker in question could by right sue Opal for terminating his service without viable proof, a manor company is not going to take this risk. I suggest argonath also send proof of this incident to Opal alongside a Legal represenaltative so that the situation can be validated and Opal does not have to risk being sued.

Hacking is an offence. It's a criminal offence. You can go to JAIL for hacking. Opal Telecom failing to deal with a hacker makes them open to legal action, with a possible result being THEM getting shut down and facing criminal charges!

Ya, it's a criminal offence, but Opal is not going to risk getting into a legal battle without first knowing that that have evidence and can actually win in court if the hacker sued them for dissconecting his Internet. I'm not saying that what Opal is doing is right, I'm just trying to explain the reason that Opal has not done enythong about it and how Argonauh owners need to take the extra step instead of cutting off the hacker and accepting the calateral damage that that will cause

Since Opal Telecom got around 20 routes ( normal 4 routes ). It is almost impossible to block for example Junaid. So they had no other options then blocking the ISP

Thanks for all the support guys! I really do appreciate it!

To that - Read before you post and stop trying to make yourself sound all grown-up and important. You are nothing more than a troll.

To that- Thank you, Alex. I've already read that... after a 2 year contract I can't really budge can I? Except maybe if it reaches court for poor service, but that's not really an option considering the ammount of time and money that will be invested in an idiot's task.

I realize that, however unless they tale the legal action and get representation then Opal does not have to respond because the server is not hosted using the Opal ISP. That's also true. Again, thank you for your support.

Do you really think someone could go to jail for hacking an account on a server ( Nevermind that it's an important and a popular one ) which is hosted for a third-party unofficial application? Still, thanks for your opinion.

Since Opal Telecom got around 20 routes ( normal 4 routes ). It is almost impossible to block for example Junaid. So they had no other options then blocking the ISP

Thanks Melvin. I was about to come to that. Isn't this Junaid guy going to connect from only certain routes that are closer to him? And if so what's the possibility of them ALL matching the ones I'm using? I don't think that's going to happen. Opal Telecom is big, they're currently having issues because of that and I don't think they'll even pay attention to something as small as a request from someone like me or the server hosts and main admins.
