MMMMKAY.
Here begins the epic tale of the faulty & frustratingly broken computer of SAPD Lieutenant GiacJr.
One fine day a few days before christmas, the slowly-deteriorating specs of the computer adformentioned finally got a glimpse of hope that a possible upgrade may be near. About two days before christmas, I turned off my baby and wished it good luck on the other side. I installed a brand new motherboard, tricked out with 8 USB slots. I also installed a new 550 watt power supply to deal with my epic new motherboard's upkeep. I turned my computer back on and prayed - after a few attempts to get the new software installed, I finally got it to work.
All was swell for two weeks. It went fine and I had no problems. And then, this grace period of awesomeness and USB-magic ended in tradgety. I got an ill-fated Blue Screen Of Death.
"Shit!", I thought to myself. I hadn't gotten a blue screen for months, if not years!
Here are the contents of this horrible, horrible BSOD...
"driver_irql_not_less_or_equal"
So this blue screen appeared to be an isolated incident - until two days later when I was listening to music and I got the same error.
This led me to beleive that the problem was my sound card, a part of my sparkling new motherboard.
As I was sharing my thoughts with my dad, the idea formed in my head that it could possibly be the source of my music - the external HD. Shit, it's a magical breakthrough in my thought process.
I unplugged my poor 420GB External HD.
Two days passed without problem. I then dared to plug it back in and observe the results. All was swell. Then I begun listening to music. All was swell. For about 30 minutes, that is. Bang, blue screen.
I unplugged that bitch and restarted. Over the next few weeks I plugged it into random USB ports when I needed to listen to music or play steam games. I eventually moved my music to an internal HD. I had over 30 Blue Screens over this period, frustrating me to a point where I think I may have let my anger out IG a few imes  . My dad then bought me a new, amazingly awesome 1tb External HD. I moved all my items onto this shiny new HD. I then proceeded to unplug my old external and throw it at something in anger, praying that it was indeed the cause of my blue screens.
Move onto today. Approximately 2 hours ago, I turned my computer on. I got to the loading screen for windows, then just before the login screen, BANG! Blue screen.
Wait...My 420GB External wasn't plugged in...
It was a standard blue screen without a particular error.
Fuck it, I said to myself. I restarted.
I then got back to square fucking one...
"driver_irql_not_less_or_equal"
Here are some assorted error messages of pictures I kept, of blue screens I got over the last few weeks...
BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER
BAD_POOL_HEADER
I tried to update all of my USB Drivers but none of them needed updating...
My dad had 2 suggestions:
Try and find any updates fo my motherboard's software.
Format if worst comes to worst; I may need to format due to not formatting when installing the new motherboard.
I read back on this topic and realise how poorly structured it is. Ah well, you can figure it out.
Any help IS appreciated, and the sooner I fix this problem the sooner I can play in peace... >_>
:ps: How do you know when you have no faith in yourself?
When you unplug your computer, fiddle around with the shit inside, then when you go to turn it back on you press the button and jump back 10 metres expecting it to explode or catch on fire... :(

Try searching something about blue screen of death at http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx (http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx)
There should be something that can help you
I had also a blue screen of death, but that wasnt fixable
-
I did some googling, found nothing of use...
-
Oh noes! Giac!
-
First if you got data you want to save and you got an external hard drive, I'd advise you grab your self an portable Windows Live CD which is also a small installation of XP on a CD(700mb) on which you can boot and run windows xp by.. and which allows you to browse your data and browse the web.. so by this you can save your data... then you can try re-formatting your pc ;)
Now I realize I haven't got any blue death screen since I've changed my GPU.... I remember I used to get random crashes when I used to play games using the old Nvidia GeForce 8600GS :)
-
Could you make a screen? About the blue dead of screen...
Maybe I can check it by google :)
And try to delete your files by clicking F8 while starting up the computer
-
k first try to change your RAM second try change your Power Supply if no any then :bye: to your mother board ... your epic mother bored got killed by your epic power supply :D
-
Have you installed any new drivers lately or have you upgraded your Sound Card recently? Any other component upgrades? For example on memory? (RAM) If you're able to, you could also try to replace your memory sticks (again, RAM) with other ones. As I'm reading some Finnish forums now, people have had something like this caused due to broken memory sticks.
Also, if you're running a Windows XP, you could try the instructions on this website: http://www.vladd44.com/other/irq_error.php (http://www.vladd44.com/other/irq_error.php)
According to that, it may also be caused by a problem with your NIC (Network Interface Card aka Network Card). On the bottom of the page is also a link for a program called Memtest, which you can use to test in case this actually is a memory based problem.
EDIT: As for searching Google with those other error codes you told, it's most likely memory problem.
-
Hit it with a Hammer, That usually works, Nah, I'll look into it for you.
Dan

Okay:
1. May be the USB entrys making interference
2. Have you installed any new drivers lately or have you upgraded your Sound Card recently? Any other component upgrades? For example on memory? 3. Run safe mode and try system restore.
4. VIRUS?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? Run a scan on your shiny 1tb disk
5. Abseloutely nothing else works (make sure to search everywhere in hardware solutions in the internets), FORMAT
6. IF THAT DOESN'T EVEN WORK... Change your madafakin motherboard it's killin ya pee cee
-
Maybe put the motherboards name here or try the manufacturer website. If that wont help, prob format. Also, you could check if your power supply is enough to keep it all running.
-
Okay here's where I'm at...
I updated everything to do with the motherboard, I updated my graphics card. I virus scanned my entire computer. I tried EVERYTHING.
Yet the random BSOD's still keep coming, so I decided to try another path...
I've removed one of my two 1gb RAM sticks to see if that's causing it...
It's been out for approx. 1 hour and no blue screen yet, so i'm staying hopeful on that front...
Will keep you updated, thanks for the support and suggestions so far! :)
-
If the blue screen still occurs, remember to test it otherway around. :p (memory sticks)
-
Yeah I know :P
So far no blue screen, but my computer froze...although I think that was my graphics card, as my G15's LED display continued to function properly, whereas if the whole computer froze it wouldn't.
-

I got the same error yesterday but thats the first time i popped and i have g15 also, but anyway, i think it was a single incident.
-
Are all your parts compatible with each other?
And by that, I mean, can EVERY SINGLE component on the inside of your baby (computer) handle each other? This is just made up, but I don't think some 1998 fan is going to go good with a brand new, "high end" power supply in today's world...
-
A bird whispered in my ear that changing motherboard is supposed to break the current setup in Windows xp.
What I mean by that is by changing motherboard, XP may become unstable.
Not suprised if XP could break from such a thing, shitty OS.
Anyways, I will say like all other windows xp users..
Re install windows xp and cross your thumbs.
-
I would advise to read the previous comments on this topic before posting your own ones... :p
How did it go yesterday, Giac? Any blue screens afterwards?
-
Not yet...but my computer completely froze when I turned it on today, so I restarted, then it froze at another point in the startup, restarted again and it loaded fine...
-
What size is the current memory stick on?
-
1gb :( it sucks
-
Well, I guess you should go out and buy secondary memory stick to replace the broken one :p
-
Ok, it seemed as though it was the memory stick's fault..
Until I got a blue screen this morning:
nv4_disp
Implying it's my Nvidia display, aka my graphics card.
It looks like I AM going to have to format and reinstall XP. Thanks for your help guys :)
-
is this a joke?
-
nv4_disp suggest to a fault in nv4_disp.dll, which is part of nVidia's graphics drivers. As I'm reading again from finnish sites, it seems to have been a long period problem on nVidia drivers. Have you upgraded or downgraded your drivers lately?
One guy had fixed this problem by first removing the whole drivers by using
http://www.download.fi/tietoturva/jarjestelman_puhdistus/driver_cleaner_pro.cfm (http://www.download.fi/tietoturva/jarjestelman_puhdistus/driver_cleaner_pro.cfm)
Then he downloaded latest nVidia drivers from
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us (http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us)
And installed nv4loopfixin
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?s=17b18eaf99e907c504db05a33bda4915&attachmentid=2679 (http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?s=17b18eaf99e907c504db05a33bda4915&attachmentid=2679)
However, this might not work for all, but it's always better to give it a try before going for the last resort - formatting.
-
Alright. Download if you can a Live CD like Ubuntu or Kubuntu.
Then, run it and BACK UP ALL your data. All of it.
Then, reinstall Windows. Then, Move over and replace your files(Programs, Music, etc) with the current ones.
And then hope for the best. It could also be a faulty motherboard or USB.
-
I can still access all my files and shit fine, and I have a 1tb external HD to fill up with shit, but I dunno if I can sit for hours while it formats...
Maybe i'll do some Oscar counting... :D
-
Use the Quick Format :p
-
Ahah nah it's formatting at the very moment...Thanks for your help Icy :)
-
No problem
-
Format finished successfully, I've installed a couple of drivers. So far no problems..
-
If shit hits the fan again I suggest to get a smaller, cheap, old HDD that hasn't been used with the same PC and install something like Xp64 on it. Try installing drivers on it and if it keeps making problems it's definitely the mobo.
-
fuck this gay fucked up bullshit, i fucking formatted my computer, reinstalled windows, installed the latest fucking drivers for everything, everything was fucking fine for 3 days and 2 minutes ago i got a fucking BSOD, but this time it didn't even fucking freeze so i could see the error message, it just decided to fucking restart!!!!
fuck this
-
Meh
-
NOEZZ GIAC!
Why Windows, WHY! >:|
^
freaking assholes who force computer sellers to sell with a Windows OS
-
f**k this gay f**ked up bullshit, i f**king formatted my computer, reinstalled windows, installed the latest f**king drivers for everything, everything was f**king fine for 3 days and 2 minutes ago i got a f**king BSOD, but this time it didn't even f**king freeze so i could see the error message, it just decided to f**king restart!!!!
f**k this
Before the windows load boot screen, press F8, then choose the option to don't restart if there's a fatal error.
Also, exchange motherboard and USB stuff and shit.
-
I love Windows, it's the best OS out there..and I am certain it's not Windows causing the bullshit problems...
I'll do what Grovyle said...
I was just cleaning up my computer desk because my mate is coming over, and I left the room for 15 seconds, came back and the computer was restarting &_&
I can't even leave it for 15 seconds! :(
-
GET A NEW PC THAT'S ALREADY BUILT
Your current PC(some part of it most likely the motherboard) is fucked up and yea get a new PC
-
goto pc world, type /buy pc and voila, your problems are solved :D

Please post the error from the blue screen if you can/could catch it pl0x
Your Windows is XP right?
-
Yes, XP Pro SP3..
I got the weirdest thing today...I was watching a youtube skate video: "The best of Rodney Mullen" (fucking insane, go watch it.) and my computer decided to restart mid-video...I hadn't touched it for 3 mins at least...

I don't think your computer would restart due to an insane skate video. It's just plain illogical :S
Try to watch the video again to see if it still happens, it can be a problem in the youtube database or your PC is completely fucked up.
-
SHIT MAN! I know what's the problem. It's everything you've got plugged in your PC Via USB. Happened to me before... it just randomly restarts right? Only thing that could fix it is to return the mobo you bought to the store and ask them to refund you as it is not properly functioning.
-
:( This sucks! I turned my computer on, turned away for LITERALLY 6.5 SECONDS, then I heard the beeping noise of it restarting... -_-
-
BSOD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSks5npSKoA#)
took a video of a blue screen....
but i took the video with the wrong mobile phone and it's shit quality
still maybe you can decipher it?

Do it
And then post here the error (write on a paper or somethinggggggggggggg)

I hap a problem with XP SP3 before this might be the same problem post a code and I will see if it is the same problem I had
:ps: I use Vista now it PWNS XP
-
NEW IDEA:
Try to install a new OS (Ubuntu, for example, completely free :) ), and see if you get same problems (OF COURSE you won't get BSOD in LINUX, you should be prompted another message)
(don't thank me for remembering this, thank Aldo...)
But before that just post the god damn message with the technique i told you :L
I want you ingameeeeeeeeee :(
-
Try to use the PC with everything unplugged from USB. If it works then it's the board's fault. Return it while you can.
-
hmm... Didn't have interest to read pages 2,3 and 4, but...
If you are using Windows 7, REMOVE IT'S DRIVERS.. Then install the ones you need (AND ONLY WHAT YOU NEED)
If you are using Vista... Well.. What can I say? Upgrade it to 7.
1. Can you install Windows XP? If not, problem is your RAM.
2. Memtest86
3. IntelBurnTest
4. FurMark
5. HD Tuner (or something like that)
Also tell me these information:
Motherboard:
CPU:
Video Card:
RAM:
GPU:
PSU:
-Kessu :)

I had the same problem, but it was with my processor's memory.Wael fixed it for me.I will ask him if he can help you out when he has time, since he is a computer techinician.
-
@Kessu, I'm using Windows XP SP3.
@Dolfa, yes, please do ask Wael to help :P
-
Giac,
- Remove all components from your motherboard excluding processor (includes RAM, graphics card, sound card etc.)
- This will ensure that all components are returned back to default hardware settings.
- Check the BIOS to ensure that all default settings do not conflict with any software settings.
- Example would be hyperthreading turned on within BIOS but disabled by software.
- Reinstall all updated drivers from manufacturer website.
- The root could be conflicting or incompatiable drivers/components.
- If all the above fails, transfer all files onto your HDD and reinstall a fresh partition.
- Ensure all drivers are updated and that a systematic approach is undertaken.
Good luck.
-
I have already removed all parts of my motherboard one by one to test if the blue screens still occurred...None of it achieved much.
I went through the entire BIOS and made sure all the settings were set properly. I had my dad who's a computer expert also check it and he said it was fine.
I have updated every single driver that is possible to be updated to no avail.
I have already formatted my computer.
The blue screens are happening a LOT less now, but the other night I got a blue screen as I restarted my computer.
Also might be worth nothing, occasionally my USB hubs will shit themselves and my HDD, wifi adapter, keyboard, mouse, etc etc will stop working for 5-10 seconds then slowly start working again. In some cases the wifi adapter won't work until I restart.
I appreciate your advice though, Frank.
I think this is a problem with the motherboard. I'll get the details for it tomorrow, post it here and do some googling. Maybe it's a shitty motherboard and lots of people are having problems with it. If so, my dad should have researched a little better before buying it :P
-
When I had the blue screen, I did the normal (for me) cheak up for my computer and found out that one of my RAM sticks had failed.
-
Well I know for a fact that both of my RAM sticks are fine, as I play game that require 1gb + of ram without any troubles...
Haven't had a blue screen in well over a week.
-

Haven't had a blue screen in well over a week.
So the problem's fixed now?
If you get another row of blue screens I would suggest to get someone to diagnose the whole computer... AGAIN.
Including every part of the hardware
-
I havent read the replys, So sorry if this has been suggested, Check inside to see if everythiing is plugged in, The computer wont boot otherwise. If everything is in, Check to see if any of the cable's are damaged, I've had a cable damaged by getting hit by a Fan!.
-
@Grovyle, I had two blue screens again today....
Next week when i'm at my dad's house i'm going to waste my entire weekend finding out what the problem is and how to fix it, but I remain adamant it's a problem with the Motherboard. We'll see, but.
-
It IS the motherboard. I have experienced the same problem. Try using your PC without anything plugged in the USB ports or just swap the mobo.
-
I bought a new Motherboard last week. Locked.
