My laptop killed itself, everytime i booted up i would go into a never ending error message about exlporer.exe (windows explorer) going into a endless fail and restart. So i reformatted. after that and re-installing vista, my drivers won't load. I have no networking and my graphic and RAM are working off my CPU. I was going to switch to another computer, but i have all my best hardware in the laptop. Since I already reformatted and lost all my drivers, would i be better off going and getting a cheap desktop, and taking everything out of the laptop and putting it in the desktop?
Or my other idea is to bring it to [censored store name] and have them look at it/try to get the drivers

try installing a different OS ?

Wouldn't the laptop hardware be a bad fit for any desktop?

I was thinking about it, but I don't know where my XP discs are
Wouldn't the laptop hardware be a bad fit for any desktop?
Again, I was wondering if that would be a problem, that's part of my question ;)

Only thing you could fit from a laptop into a PC is the HDD and some Ram, Depends on the model - the video card and MAYBE, Just MAYBE the processor.
-
HDD is possible, videocard is not possible if you do not make some MAJOR big-ass never tried modifications.
Ram same story.. or there must be some converter, but that's most likely not the case.
Alright, looked up some info.. and saw some interesting information about the processor.
It seems that some processor actually fit and work on a desktop.
Due to it's low temperature and voltage it's mostly used by overclockers, since you can crank it up way more than a desktop processor before running into the 'overclock barrier'.
So.. I would say, give it a shot. Lol..

Go to your official laptop manufacturer website and download the drivers they have, put it on a flash drive, and install it off the flash drive. If you can't locate it, call customer support and have them help you locate those drivers. If you only have missing drivers, its only a matter of finding correct drivers for your computer, and like others have said, there are some compatibility issues between laptops and desktops.
If your going to try it at all, better do a bunch of research on it, and then end up buying parts for the pieces you can't salvage.
