Title: ELM MOD causing problems [UPDATE]
Post by: Gandalf on May 17, 2010, 05:52:38 pm
We have been checking recent problems with opcodes and crashes on server, and have found that the latest version of the ELM mod is causing this.

The problems are not just for the players using them, but also for the players who are near those using the WLM mod.

There for until the problems are solved, we require players not to use this, for the good of other players.

Please report this to the makers, and if they solve the prolbems the mod can be tested and possibly come back in to use again.

If an earlier version does not cause the opcodes it can be used.
However is admins advise you to remove it, please do so.

Do the opcodes occur when you USE it or when you have it INSTALLED?

I have the older version (8.5). I won't use it for a while! :)

For your information, I have been testing ELM8.51 and I can say that these crashed are caused due to the custom pattern system.

If you create it on a fault way, other people will crash due to it as it cannot show that it showed to you.

Update:

Any person who got ELM 8.51
Do NOT enable Area Flash -- Disable it.
This is the reason of causing crash

I've disabled it and get in-game, no crashes at all for me and anyone.

If you don't know it, you don't have it :)

It gives your SA more special effects, like shadows on cars etc. It makes it more 'real'

hi guys
can anyone else confirm this? i can see why it might be this and not the custom light patterns given that is using the same code as previous versions to make the lights flash. ill ask around if they have seen this issue too elsewhere

Hi Andy,

I hope you will be able to fix it, as the mod has been used by many players.
Let us know if you found a way, admins will help out by spectating players with a fixed version and checking for the opcodes.

Gandalf,

can you clear something up for us!, i know the answer based on this post alone but certain admins mainly (rory_astrunther) say that all ELM is not allowed and will do ALERTS across creen saying so. however other admins/mods like (DAVE) will say that only 8.51 or 8.5 are disallowed but any older versions which dont have opcode issues are fine.

So since we have alot of admins and mods, there is a chance there was misinformation given, can you clear up the situation with the offical answer.

* my view is that all versions below 8.0 are allowed if no opcode, however if 8.0 or mainly 8.5 or 8.51  are installed you could be banned and there def. disallowed.

Thanks,

Concerned member of the community,

Blinky

further to blink17s post. I have asked around and no one else has seen this issue on other servers. having said that Argonath has probably the largest player base so we're more likely to notice something

If we're certain its ELM 8.5.1 causing the issue, subject to OK from the admins, I'd suggest trailing turning off the 'area flash' option through the config tool (default is off anyway) and see they come back. this is the only major difference code wise from 8.0 that might be having an affect like this. if it turns out to be this i will consider re-releasing a version with this disabled when used in SAMP

Regarding the opcodes, I do not think it has anything to do with ELM.
I also get these opcodes when no one around me is using the ELM.

And it's mostly happening on Persing Square

I never thought it was ELM..... It happens randomly even when im not near a person and dont even have ELM installed. Most of the time op-codes dont effect the game for me... but idk...

HOWEVER, i have found that if a person is using ELM and i try to spectate them, sometimes i crash.

If we all revert to either 7.5 or 7.0 we should be good. I know for a fact that thoes should not cause opt codes. I also do believe that a new ELM is either comming out or has come out that does not cause opt codes. If anyone has further information please notify me. I am currentley checking other servers to see what exactley causes the opt code, although I do think it is Just Argonath.

Hmm... Alright, it might just be a problem for specific people.
For example people who have downgraded their San Andreas to version 1 or already have version 1, might only get the opcodes and people who have version 2 do not, or the other way around... Just giving an example..

just an update to this I have found one issue where if you press/hold f11 (or the menu key) when the mod isnt running you get op code warnings. its possible others around you may get it too.

I've fixed this my end and no complaints so far. I've also used CLEO 4 which is more compatiable with the various GTA SA versions. I'll release this ASAP

Well, a player and I was at Santa Marina Beach and I was literally pelted with Opcodes and crashed several times within minutes of relogging. I had to teleport out of LS because of this. This player claimed he didn't see any opcodes.  :trust:

Gotta blame crashes and lag on something, mals well blame it on ELM...

I've been using it since it came out synced for SAMP, and the only crashes are those caused by leaving it on. In other words, client side.

Find another reason to blame lag and crashes on, because its not ELM. Mmkay.

Lag could be, but crashes were caused. The current version of SA:MP is pretty stable, but right after ELM was brought out there were several noticeable mass crashes.
ELM is not the only cause for opcodes, and depending on which features you are using you may or may not experience them. Basicly we support ELM, but until we are clear it will not cause crashes we have to be cautious.

Title: Re: Warning: ELM MOD causing problems

CLEO is a mod program that can do all sorts of things. ELM is one of the mods that CLEO can run.

Be careful with alot (or most) CLEO mods, they may give you advantages.
Title: Re: Warning: ELM MOD causing problems

So, let me see if I got it? I can install CLEO with no problems at all, but during the installation process I need to disactivate some options or something like that, as advantages (as you said) are consider hacking, right?
Title: Re: Warning: ELM MOD causing problems
Post by: ScottKenney on June 15, 2010, 07:45:47 pm
Its the mod files that are in the CLEO folder that can give the advantages. I believe that when you install it, it gives the option to install sample mods or something, don't select that option. If you already did install it with that option, just remove the mods from the CLEO folder.

Looking back at the posts saying we should go back to the ones which other players can't see, where's the fun in that?

My opinion is the same with car texture modifications. What is the point of getting an awesome looking mod if no-one else can see it?
The whole point of ELM (for me) was so other people could see the lights. Me, i don't give a crap, but it looks more realistic to the people watching (and it means i could realistically chase criminals in a civilian car).

Thats why i scrapped any visual mods i had, because no-one else can appreciate them.

:D
