This idea just came up in my mind.
People tend to post useless posts just to rise their post count. And the ranks that are shown underneath your Avatar are based on your post count, which in my perspective, is strange, since the words are referring to kindoff social ranks a person is named after in this community.
Regular Ranks.
Stranger. * (0 posts +)
Regular. ** (50/100 posts +) (forgot this one)
Veteran. *** (500 posts +)
Hero. **** (1000 posts +)
Admin Ranks.
SA:MP / MTA:SA / MTA:VC / VC:MP Moderator. **
SA:MP / MTA:SA / MTA:VC / VC:MP Administrator. *****
SA:MP / MTA:SA / MTA:VC / VC:MP Manager. ***
Community Leader. (*=?)
Webmaster. (*=?)
Owner. *******
Forum Admin Ranks.
Forum Moderator. *****
These ranks are from my head and please fill me in if some of them are not correct..
Anyway, what I am trying to say is that the Normal Member ranks should be changed to the date of registration, not the post count.
EX:
Stranger. * (0 days +)
Regular. ** (1 month +)
Veteran. *** (6 months +)
Hero. **** (1 year +)
And maybe add some more ranks in between..
I need you suggestions and opinions about this..

Supported! Will reduce posthunting I think, if they'll remove the postcount itself also it'll be perfect imo.
Well, I think they still need the postcount.. It's just a part of SMF... Without postcount it will be... Idk... :conf:
-
I don't think this is able to obtain on SMF forums, actually.
Try search trough some addons, Dutchy, maybe you'll find it ;)

Well, on the ARPD and Destruction Derby forums you can manually give people different ranks... So I don't know about time related ranks... Maybe it's something to suggest to the SMF Devs if it doesn't exist already. :)
-
YES, please.
-
only way wud be by manually setting the rank when someone gets that age. hundreds of accounts to do seems like a waste of time

Hmmm... I guess, it's a thing for SMF forums, not for Argonath Forums... Have to get a reply from a webmaster or something, though.

also beside adding in the middle I suggest adding Legend 3+ years.

Sweet, I'd be a Legend :3
And Dutchy, not a bad idea.
-
That'll keep you from spamming Dutchy :)
Good idea actually, if possible.

The ranks' not a problem to me anyway, I don't even care about the post counts nor the forum ranks so I'd we stick to the current one.
About the spammers? You all know what to do like you do in-game "Don't moan, /report!".
The forum got a report feature why don't report the spammers?
Nothing special about the forum ranks anyway, I mean the one based on post count, even if you have 10000 posts and have Hero forum rank you won't get an access to the development board so it doesn't matter.

nono, people with 5k posts, that are not admins or a higher rank should have -2 stars saying troll or spammer.

Just because you're an admin doesn't mean you have the right to troll or spam. Or am I getting the wrong impression of what you're trying to say?
-
1. hes not an admin
2. this would be a waste of time

There are around 15k+ forum accounts if I remember correctly. You can forget about this.

What is the difference with the current system?

What is the difference with the current system?
It doesn't really make sence with the namings. Since ''veteran'' is for this community considered as people who played here for over a year. (I think) and regulars, from around 4 months atleased. And most people get veteran rank when they played for only 2-4 months. It just doesn't fit the community IMO.

What is the difference with the current system?
The difference is that at the moment, the forum ranks are given by the number of posts but not by the time they have actually been in forums.
-
Well.. I guess you guys finally got what you wanted.. ;)
-
Very much supported. BUT for 3k posts add rank TROLL

that can be done I think...

We have now changed to a system where ranks are based on time spent on forums instead of the number of posts, so this will stop the post-huinting and invite people to camp on forums.
But remember that whatever system we use, it is just meant for the forums and has no relation to their status or rank in game. Someone who has registered in 2007 but rarely watches might have a newbie rank on forums and be a highly respected veteran in game.

would my rank be Veteran?

Newbie - Time?
Regular - Time?
Veteran - Time?
Hero - Time?
