Jesus, I think reading that made my eyes twitch. There is no 'free' Photoshop as powerful as Adobe Photoshop (?). You can find many tutorials online, just use the handy google tool.
-
Read online tuttorials, when you think you learned all you can from there you need to read more, there is no good free version of photoshop, and as person with over 7 years expirience with Adobe, you newer learn it, there is always new stuff to learn
-
Maybe you could try Paint.NET it is free, "almost" the same as Photoshop can (not at all, but the most) and you can install plugins, and its legal ;)
-
Photoshop is all about experimenting. Read some basics around internet and experiment, try effects, combine. Use your imagination, press buttons without order, to see the effect and start from there. You'll get better through time. Nothing is achievable overnight. ;)

+1
But, yeah.. If you don't feel comfortable to try things yourself, follow tutorials and maybe do
it more then once and you will in the end learn the effects or the method without being in need
of watching/reading something

Your best bet would be to buy Photoshop. It is quite expensive, but it is totally worth it. If you do not have the money right now, try to use the trial version. Currently it allows full usage for 30 days. Then you would need to buy the full version. Other then that, GIMP is a great alternative, and does many of the things Photoshop does. GIMP is free and is a great tool to start with.
