Title: Driver for new mouse won't work
Post by: Hess on November 15, 2010, 09:35:04 am
Ok, so my whole day has consisted of me trying to get my new mouse working and I've given up searching all over the internet for solutions, so I've come here to get proper help...

It is a Microsoft "Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000", and I initially followed the steps that came with it but I'm convinced it is failing to install the drivers properly on my Vista laptop...

When I plug in the receiver it comes up with found new hardware and has only 1 option worth following:

When I click Locate and install driver software, it takes a while to search then it finally comes up with this after saying "installing driver", so it seems it find it but can't install it:

The mouse packaging came with a CD but the software does not make a difference on the drivers, it only adds to the functionability of it. I've also tried downloading & installing the latest version of the software incase that somehow would have sold the problem, but for some reason it also brings up the mysterious "Interactive Station message" when installing...

At the moment I'm using Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000, but the 6000 is a lot better (aside from not working...)

Oh yeah, and I tested it on 2 Windows XP computers, and it installed the driver automatically and started working perfectly within a few seconds.

Try to download the driver from Microsoft, or simply locate the XP driver and re-locate it on Windows Vista.

Ok, so supposedly now the IntelliPoint (which is the program on the CD) contains the driver, yet somehow I didn't require it on the other computers...

Already tried the CD version several times - I'll try downloading the XP version though.

-IntelliPoint 8.0 (latest downloadable version) comes up with a fatal error on install (different to all the other errors).
-IntelliPoint 7.1 (on CD) installs a program called "Microsoft Mouse" successfully, but even after that I still get the "Interactive Windows Station" required message come up (as shown in the screenshot) when plugging the device in and attempting to install the driver.

Also, I don't know if this is related at all, but I've also lost all my configurations in a couple programs - possible more...

New problem... I can't even install my new headset (also microsoft). I downloaded the driver but when I plug the headset in it still tries to search for the drivers online I guess...

It just "installed" both drivers when I restarted, but neither device wants to communicate with my computer still:

Run Device Manager and uninstall any present drivers for them and try again.

Hi Hess,

Excellent Post, I would be happy to help you out with this one.

I might be dragging up old dirt, but its always a good idea to recheck what you have done:
Microsoft Mice are often pretty good at finding their own drivers, If you have Windows XP or higher, there should be no reason to have to search for drivers at all!

If your drivers do not work that you have off the cd, Dont forget that you can download the newer drivers from Microsofts own website. Make sure though, that you do uninstall any software (drivers) that you have recently put on before attempting to install new ones.
Ok, the 2nd Picture which you showed, is an error due to the first picture ( about where to get the drivers from). Choose the first option which was LOCATE AND INSTALL DRIVER SOFTWARE (RECOMMENDED).

It appears from the photos that you are running windows 7. You will be happy to know that new Microsoft drivers are automatically downloaded through windows 7, so that saves A Lot of time messing around with finding the right driver, Choose the first option to get it set up.

If you are still experiencing a problem, it could be to do with the USB Port. (Stupid yes but always try to use another port and see if you get the same problems!)

THATS IT FOR THAT SECTION

Are they Bluetooth Enabled ? Do you have to pair them up ? If so, check out the bluetooth options in control panel! You may need to add a paired device in order to get them working!

Also, try again on another computer. If they install correctly you are already half way there, make sure you check to see what you may have forgotten!

Good luck with the little problem you are having. I am sure if you manage to get them working on one computer with Windows XP, Windows 7 shouldnt be too difficult, even if the options may be in a different place!

Happy Gaming

Regards,
