Title: 24" Screens
Post by: Todor on November 29, 2010, 12:25:05 pm
Hey guys. In the market for a 24" screen, 23 would also be cool, it's not that big of a difference. Resolution should be 1920x1080/1920x1200 and it shouldn't cost more than 180GBP(Please teach the forum to accept the pound sign, it deleted my message 3 times). Any suggestions? I've been looking at a couple of Sammys:

And an Acer:

which is slightly more expensive but I can order it together with my case.
Any alternatives or any impressions if you've seen these bad boys in action?

To be honest, for the prices monitors are at, you'd be better buying a HD TV that can double as a monitor. I'll have a quick skim over the major high-street stores.

(says the person with the 32" Samsung HDTV)

TVs get lots of blur with fast paced action plus I don't have space for one so it's a no-no.

Look for 120Hz monitors, after that, you won't be going back to normal 60Hz ones.

With a 180 quid budget? I don't think so, although I've considered it.

Might be able to get away with a 22 inch one or a 20 inch one with that budget to be honest.

Check the links I've put on there. And, no, I'm not getting one smaller than that.

Hi Todor,

Great Post!

My Selection would be the second one from Aria. I've been there (Manchester UK) and they seem to have a pretty good team, also over-clockers is even better!

It seems to me that price is everything, and the same would be said here too! Have a look at all the monitors that you have shown us and it looks like they are pretty much identical, but the prices arent! Bear in mind that the money you spend now will be worth MUCH LESS in a years time (if you prefer to wait that long or even after Christmas.) Samsung has improved their build quality a lot since I last bought mine (over 200 pounds back in 2006 for a 20 inch wide-screen monitor with 5ms and a strange resolution over 1650x1440 i think it was? Looks like they are certainly getting better.

Some things to mention though, while you are in the food for thought process regarding these screens. The MS if you do not know already is to do with the ghosting effect. Under 5ms you hardly notice it at all, so there's no need to spend even more money just because another monitor states it does 3ms! As for the 60hz 75hz 120hz campaign, Well Panasonic TVs do 250hz, so how long do you think it is going to be before they start hitting the computer sector? I do agree though, if you can more hz means that you will get what looks like smoother game-play. ONLY if your graphics card can handle 120fps. I do not know about you, but on GTA 4, i have trouble getting past 40fps, so in my situation 60hz would be good for me!

Happy Gaming!

I am currently running a 24" acer and by god its awsome.

I will never go back to anything smaller than about 20" now as it is just so much involving.

I find it brilliant when im coding websites.. you can get everything you could possibly need on the one screen.

In the new year i am buying another i hope to go with my new pc but im just greedy :)

Hey, guys, thanks for the posts. IMO Samsung right now is best bang for buck monitor-wise and I have to say they also look brilliant. I've actually pretty much settled for one that goes a tad over my budged, P2450H, but it has really good specs and I've read good reviews on it. I'll make sure to report back to you on how it goes. FPS-wise, I don't think I'll have any trouble. Building a whole new rig with a 460 sli.
