Title: Materialistic Christmas
Post by: Maxy on December 21, 2010, 08:09:13 pm
Every christmas thread I have ever read, or any christmas related topics I seem to hear are always related to gifts.

Why is it important what you get for christmas, or why brag about what you get? Christmas has become a holiday to show off your financial and social status within the world, rather than what it really is, a celebration. Not a celebration about Religion (Although it has been morphed into one) but a celebration of the last solstice of the year.

The original christmas celebrations, many thousands of years ago were celebrations about it being the coldest day of the year, because the sun was furthest away. It symbolized that the weather would be getting warmer, and new life was just around the corner. How it got from there to where it is now is a mystery of human history. Religion having started as sun worship ( That's a fact ) and having placed the birth of christ convieniently on this day.

But anyways, my original point is as follows.

Why do you think Christmas has become about gifts, and if it's not about gifts for you, what is important to you on Christmas?

Material gifts without christmasloveforall would be meaningless.
Christmasloveforall without material gifts would be boring.

The second point only applies since the world became the way it is.

Gifts, money, family, being off school.

If I had a job I'd like to give other people gifts, that'd be nice.

Christmas was the shit when I was 9-11 years old. But ever since, it hasn't been anything special to me, I don't even have a christmas feeling and we are only one or two days away from "the day".

I would rather sit back and relax doing my thang during Christmas than to be worldwide forcing up a grin. As for the gifts, I don't care at all - although you feel "forced" to buy something for the others seeing as you would be judged as the "motherf**ker" if you didn't.

Haven't got anything last year, or the year before that. Not expecting anything this year either. I have a different meaning for Christmas. To keep CHRIST in Christmas. :)

Don't the Germans celebrate it on the 6th of January?

Because this generation has been brought up in such a way - in the majority of cases - that having the most expensive and biggest presents makes them feel good inside. In other words they're selfish brats.

My ideal Christmas would be my entire family coming together for once a year to catch up and shit. But that hardly happens.

Screw all of this love and family crap, I want a fucking dell laptop!

Jokes aside, sharing and receiving make people feel good, so I'm fine with Christmas the way it is.

Almost posted a picture of a plane crashing into a building, but then I realized it wouldn't be funny.
