Title: New processor help
Post by: Vukasin on January 01, 2011, 09:09:13 pm
Hi, i need help. I want to buy new processor, so i can play new games. I prefer cheap ones, because i dont have much money... I think my Motherboard is AM2... Can you help me, and tell me some processor's that can play new games (not on high graphic and that shit, but just PLAY)... And its not 110e+. Please. PS im not some computer pro, so use regular language instead of some complicated talk.

You should try to get the program 'EVEREST' (also known as AIDA now), to check your pc information, then we talk about it, since you'll provide us more info.

If you want your PC to perform better in games, then you need to buy a better graphics card, not a better processor.

Anyway, you do need to post your specifications because often with older PCs (if you have an older PC), it's not worth upgrading.

I just did a quick search for you... With an AM2 socket you are limited, but I've found a decent quad core for you...

You will likely need to purchase a new graphics card to, you will run into a bottleneck if you upgrade your CPU but still have a shit GPU.
Here's a decent GPU... http://ow.ly/3wS4y (http://ow.ly/3wS4y)

Well it says that it's backwards compatible with AM2 sockets but you may need to update the bios on your motherboard.

Is updating BIOs hard? And also, will i be able to upgrade my computer later ?

Not on mine, I can flash the bios using a USB stick. It depends on your motherboard.

It really depends on what processor you have at the moment. Your graphics card isn't the best but it isn't the worst either, it should be able to handle most modern games at medium/low settings but you obviously need a decent processor and around 4GB of DDR2 ram at least... You want to avoid bottlenecking, which basically means if you have a seriously good graphics card but a shit CPU, then you've wasted your money because the graphics card won't be able to perform properly.

If you're on a tight budget then maybe just buy a dual core like this one: http://ow.ly/3xDQC (http://ow.ly/3xDQC)

They all seem to be backwards compatible with AM2 motherboards but it would help if you told us all what motherboard you have...

Intel Core I7 is awesum but if you don't wanna spend much money buy the i5 one like i have in my laptop.. It's great too  :D

i5 is like...... 200e, i dont have that much :D

Trojan, i have MS7369. Ive googled Call of Duty Black Ops requirments now... it needs Athlon II X2 260 ... Its 55e, which is good enough. And its all i need to play Call of Duty without lag. Just tell me, can i buy Athlon II X2 260, without buying new motherboard? And can you explain me: is 4gb of DDR2 RAM needed, or its just "better to havE" because i have 2gb ram.

and also, if i buy Athlon II X2 260 new, will i have to upgrade my motherboard and processor again in like 1year?

Just think about it: Is it good buying Athlon II X2 260 now, with 2gb of ram and Nvidia GeForce 9500GT, and also, i dont want to play games on ULTRA HIG graphic, i just want to be able to play them

The BIOS file you need to download...
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=9301&type=bios (http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=9301&type=bios)

By flashing the BIOS it will enable you to install the Athlon II X2 260. It tells you how to flash the BIOS in the included ZIP file.

If you upgrade your processor you will possibly get another year out of the computer but like with any technology it will become obsolete over time.

You need at least 2GB of DDR2 RAM as stated in the system requirements but I'd recommend at least 4GB because it will help a huge amount. You will also need a better graphics card to be able to play Black Ops, the 9500GT will not perform well enough. Maybe you could sell your current CPU and GPU to raise money to replace them.

AMD Athlon X2 260 - http://ow.ly/3xHAF (http://ow.ly/3xHAF)
Nvidia 240 GT - http://ow.ly/3xHqN (http://ow.ly/3xHqN)
2GB DDR2 RAM - http://ow.ly/3xHst (http://ow.ly/3xHst)

Trojan, about RAM, when i buy 2gb it adds to my 2gb and i get 4gb ram? Its not very expensive... I can loan 20e from someone, and about Graphic Card, i really cannot afford better one... I dont earn alot in real life as im just a kid, (i can do something illegal, but its not worth getting criminal records for GPU lol).... And im going to say this again: I dont want to play games on HIGH Graphic, i just want to be able to play them, i dont care if its Low Graphics, medium graphic or something....

Think like this: You dont have alot of cash, and you probably wont earn more (in Serbia 200e is regular Monthly Salary). You want to play new games,  but your CPU isnt good enough to run them.... If you had that scenario, would you buy Athlon II X2 260, and replace it with your old CPU, or save for 3months, dont eat anything, dont go anywhere etc and buy new CPU,Motherboard and GPU?

Just tell me, is it worth buying Athlon II X2 260 now???

lol if you buy 2gb of ram and install it you will have 4gb of ram because you already have 2gb and 2+2=4

Also about the graphics card, you should be OK with the 9500GT on the lowest settings but you may experience some slight lag issues sometimes.

It's up to you if you buy the Athlon 260 but you won't be able to play Black Ops without it. Personally knowing me I'd just save for a brand new PC and sell my old one.

Well, im saving for 2years already... all cash goes away when Electricity or Gas price raises..... And also , taxes on PC's will raise soon, so i guess i should buy new processor now for 50e, instead of waiting 1year and buy the same for 100e :D

i7 are only compatible with Intel Based motherboards, his is an AMD based motherboard. Don't suggest Intel Chips to people with AMD motherboards, because they will NEVER work.

You guys are not really helping this guy.. okay let's get to the point.

Vukasin, your video card is Okay to run GTA IV on medium or low.
GTA IV is a game that requires more than of processors instead of video card.

Alright, as you use AM2 socket, i'd like to ask you a question.. is it AM2+ socket?
if it's AM2 socket, you can buy Athlon 64 X2 6000+, it is relatively cheap 3ghz dual core processor.
If you have AM2+ socket, i'd sugest Athlon II X2 250, it's 3ghz and very cheap.

I need your motherboard specs :S

Also, please post your Power Supply... i'll need it.

Yea Gamer computer Need good  processor and graphics card and buy intel core i7 processor ;)
AMD also have good processors, not only i7.
