Hey Argonath, lately I've been very active going online on Argonath and roleplaying with some of you. I've been taking a look at myself and the position Im in IRL. I feel like this game is more of an addiction than an enjoyable game to play. I told myself last year that I would try to stop playing since i was entering college and i would try to get a job. Since then Ive kept playing, and ive been falling behind in school right now and i cant get a job because im too lazy to go look for one. I've also stopped making some music which is what i consider the best hobby i've ever discovered for myself. my social life is also taking a hit because all i've been doing is sit in front of the computer which is pathetic for me.
anyway, i might not want stop argonath and go cold turkey, but i want people who have been in this situation to tell me how i can manage myself in a sense and gradually stop playing as often as i do. thanks

PC-lockdown.
Download a program that locks your PC at a given time.
Inform everyone you play with that your PC gets locked at a given time.
And while your PC is locked study and look for a job or watch some Playboy.

watch some Playboy.
i would, but i would need my computer for some of the classes im taking, its more of a self control issue for me
-
Allright, i'll check if I can find some programs that can lock individual programs (Like SA:MP & GTA)

I couldn't find any freeware programs, but I found a small 30-day trial Program (http://www.shareup.com/Software_Time_Lock-download-29134.html) that you could use untill someone finds a freeware one :D

I Suppose you just need to start thinking different.

Programs wont do anything for you. You will always find a way to tell yourself that you should play longer. My suggestion is to go completely "cold turkey" for about two weeks. Turn PC off (unless homework requires it), turn all possibly sources to get on the internet off. Usually, that kills the addiction and you seriously see a change.

Your right on all points... I am addicted to argonath I log on forums at school I am averaging a 3.4 GPA now... and I spend all my extra time online and do my homework before the class.. Yea I got a problem aswell man.

Thinking about it me too, im getting addicted, like nicotine to a cigar :trust:

Just ask your parents (if you still life at your parents) to shut down the internet.
Or be real, do you really need this game? If you want to achieve things in live, you should get to action bro! (Says the one who has bad grades himself )
Or request a ban.

That^. I were in same situation as you. Just think in other minds, not computers/video games.
-
You know what I did?
I sold my laptop. I have a crappy PC that can only log in the internet. Cannot play games.

youre right there's no denying that. i'll ask myself that when i get online. As far as requesting a ban though im just gonna find another server and DM in it till i get banned and keep repeating that action

I believe the consequences will lead you elsewhere, hopefully somewhere more "better" in the social life. But as long as you enjoy playing on Argonath, I don't see any reason to just stop cause you "need" - I've dealt with that bullshit before.

Learn time-management. You know you have to do a number of things you must do, a numer of things you like and a number of things you want to do.
First priority: school work/ job. When you arrive home take 30 minutes to relax, watch TV or listen to music.
Then start the school work and job applications, and do not get distracted by all other things until its finished.
After that you have the remaining time to split between things like making musing and playing Argonath. If you need to, make a schedule, but do not become a slave of it.

Turn laptop off then you can't play....

Wowzers i made a mess in my trousers
i found this article on yahoo, pretty good read on this topic
http://blog.games.yahoo.com/blog/311-the-fine-line-between-game-enthusiast-and-addict?nc (http://blog.games.yahoo.com/blog/311-the-fine-line-between-game-enthusiast-and-addict?nc)
For some video game enthusiasts, finding a way to keep their hobbies from overtaking other aspects of their lives isn't an easy thing to accomplish. And the reasons, according to one doctor, have nothing to do with a lack of impulse control.
"There's a neurochemistry - whether you're gambling, gaming or taking drugs - that is all the same," "It has to do with the elevation of dopamine and other neural chemicals that your body makes. When it overproduces that for too long, the body makes adjustments - which we call tolerance. ... And when you're not engaged in that stimulating behavior or ingestion of those chemicals, the body goes into withdrawal."

You are definitely playing this shit far too much if you are creaming your pants due to something on an on-line games forum.
