Title: Owning Enterprises
Post by: ~Legend~ on January 16, 2011, 03:38:11 am
I've always thought that the business system that we have on the server is great, as it allows some real opportunities for players, and can even be the roots of positive roleplay.

Just one thing I noticed was that you can only directly own a single business asset per person. Of course, that's fine for those that simply want to own the single business, but however when it comes to those that focus a lot of their roleplay around business and trade it does bring up a couple of limits. While there are some obvious reasons behind why so far you can only have one business per person, it prevents people from expanding, owning chains of business and starting up enterprises. While through roleplay most of these things are possible, owning the right assets also help.

Likewise, this also touches on the topic of owning properties and vehicles. You are currently allowed to have 1 property per person, and I think 2 vehicles. Maybe the limits on these could be re-thought as well for similar reasons. While we don't want one person owning everything, on the same level it may not be fair restricting things.

Owning more than one property could open up new options - such as more wardrobe space to store skins (only 3 slots right now - more might give the clothes shop owners a hand). As I am not the owner of a gang HQ, this is not so relevant to me, but HQ owners are immediately restricted in having a property of their own due to their original property now supporting their group/gang.
It may bring a bit more freedom if the hold on this was lessened.

No changes are needed. The restrictions are good for a number of reasons. In 1.1 you wasn't even allowed to own 2 cars.

You can easily set up enterprises as well. Just set up a group and buy a number of business together. Then the group can share the money out between them. EAF has already done this actually.

Yea, that's why I thought I would suggest this now that the scripts have settled in.

As the population of VC isn't huge, it may at times leave a lot of things unowned or just lying around. I was thinking up ideas for the solo businessperson, than groups etc.

A solo businessperson isn't an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who is in charge of an enterprise, which is an business organization, therefore not being run by just one person. I don't think Alan Sugar runs every one of his businesses alone. I'm not in favor of one person owning more than one business. I personally think that one is enough per player. There really isn't a lot that goes unused, think about it. I can generally say that the majority of businesses I buy from, if thats: food, clothes, guns, drugs, cars, repairs; those businesses are owned.

Some places need company cars.Instead of owning by other owners..

Also Delivery cmds.Because countless amounts of money.Is being spent on HQ weaponry. And it is not going to the faithful owners as it should be.

I dont think I could have been said better.

Itl be better if other players have the same opportunity as everyone else

Yea, we don't want one person owning everything.

I was actually thinking more for those that are not particularly into clans/groups but still like to take part in business etc.
I would highly recommend running businesses in groups as that would bring greater opportunities to the group as well as yourself.

Personally, I meant having more freedom in owning assets to set up large chains and the likes for people that are not so into clans or groups. These wouldn't necessarily have to be for the scripted businesses - just properties, chain links.

The main idea was to add more freedom to the system, not so that people can necessarily own more.

There are solo entrepreneurs too in the real world that keep their own trading separate to their affiliates

Alright, I was just thinking how this would work - but without the issues mentioned by the other posts.

Maybe we could class each business & property under 1, 2 and 3.

1 = Small business/property
2 = Medium business/property
3 = Big business/property

Of course, those are just basic classes.
From this, we could have a system that determines how many of each class property/business a player can own at any one time.

For instance:
At any one time a player can own:

- 2 class 1 businesses
- 1 class 1 business - 1 class 2 business
- 1 class 2 business
- 1 class 3 business

It's a little tricky.
That still leaves a cap of 2 max at any one time. Most likely all scripted businesses (ones with pickups) will have to be either class 2/3.
