Topic title says itself, Allow users to edit their displayed name.
Discuss, yes/no and why.
-
Yes
so much easier then contacting Forum Admins to do it.

Big Yes
Because Webmaster are lazy to change your name
-
Why if I may ask is it so important to change a forum name? its nothing serious, just a name which people can recognise you by.
So whats the need to change it?

It's easy and avoids confusion... :)
-
Confusion is created when people change their names often aswell... ;)

That's why its disabled and because people would use inappropriate display names, When people get some maturity with this thing called "name change" then I will support

Why not creating a censored name list? Like the censored word one (not sure if it is possible)
Although I have asked webmasters alot in the past month, I do definitly support this.
If ARPD website has it, why not Main website also?
-
Initially we disallowed it, as giving the permission opened up some other possible edits that could lead to problems. We will check exactly what the setting opens up in the current version, and if there is no further problem we can allow it.
-
I don't see why not. But it doesn't affect me.
-
I would like this as I could change my name back to its good old self whenever I get mistreated by someone on the forum administration team.

Don't allow it T.T.
There's no shortage of forum administrators now is there...
The risk of allowing would be much more stress maybe.

Would be nice.

It'd be abused like shit.
-
No thanks, one day I'll be Mr.Jakim and troll in one board, then I change back to something and no one recognizes....

Then someone will look back at the posts and your new name will be there, and all of your posts will still be in your "last posts" You filthy filthy troll.
-
Seeing as now the leaders have decided to disallow any name change whatsoever, this threads goals look a bit high
It'd be of course abused.
How would it be regulated?
How would we know people do not over use it - like constant changing, leading to complete confusion and maybe abuse.
-
At my old community, the administrator got annoyed as fuck with 130941093249013209 pms asking for name changes. Therefore, he set something that allowed name changes once every two weeks.
Maybe once every two months?
-
Personally I would not change mine, as I have changed my ingame name a few times, it's nice to think I still have something the same as when I first joined.
-
I'd like to have that function but as all said above it would be abused. I don't support the idea.
-
Supported, but you have to wait 24 hours to change. This gives time for admins to know who is who..
-
I'll think it will be abused, but we can do it with the rule, that if someone abuses it, there will be a direct forum ban on him for 1 month :)
-
Supported , but how other users said : you have to wait 24 hours to change again.

No. Learn2SMFnew, once your name is changed, it will automatically be updated in every single topic/board you've posted. In other words, if I change my name right now to "TROLL", post somewhere, change it back, and go to the topic I have posted in, it will say not "TROLL", it will actually be "Roman".
Then someone will look back at the posts and your new name will be there, and all of your posts will still be in your "last posts" You filthy filthy troll.
No, read above :)

Yea, Agreed :)

Changing forum name? I wouldn't do it even if my forum name was 'JustinBieber'. Torero's Mind: Oh wait I would..
-
I agree with this idea, Roman, if people abuse it forum administration takes action!
-
Perhaps logging of name-changes can take place per user, like a section where an administrator can see all previous forum names of a user,
as well as the players can change name if they want to but first it must go through admin verification before it gets changed to prevent inappropriate names?
