Title: Activision Threatens to Pull PSN for Black Ops
Post by: Rusty on January 19, 2011, 05:25:18 pm
Source: http://jasonkoblovsky.blogspot.com/2011/01/activision-threatens-to-pull-psn.html (http://jasonkoblovsky.blogspot.com/2011/01/activision-threatens-to-pull-psn.html)

I (like the majority of Call of Duty Black Op's PS3 gamers) have been experiencing a huge number of connection problems for the past 3 month of release of this game.  I've been in dialog with Activision with respect to the problems associated with this game, and following the call of duty forums (PS3 forums are filled to the max daily on complaints with connection problems with the multi-player of this game).  I've posed some questions with respect to what Activision and Treyarch are going to do to keep the loyalty of the PS3 gamers to the Call of Duty titles due to the consistent problems PS3 users have been having and reporting to Treyarch since release. Activision offered the following and startling response:

Quote
Well I have nothing else to offer and I too follow forums and have many friends who play and enjoy the game for all of its features. As an avid gamer, I would also disagree with any legalities involving a single aspect of a game as online experience may change at any time. The publishers have the right to shut down the servers for their game at any time as well which based on the number of reported posts from users may be a viable solution over the free PSN.

        In any event, if you would like to send your game disc into us, we can either;

        a) Exchange for a sealed (unopened) copy of the game that you can take back to the retailer
        b) Swap for another platform
        c) Exchange for another Activision title of equal or lesser value.

These are the options that we are able to offer to you as a one time courtesy.

Let us know how you would like to proceed.

My Response:

So what essentially your telling me here, is that you've released a product that is known to have some major connection issues, and a threat here to the gaming community to keep their mouth shut, or the publisher might exercise it's rights to pull support for PSN?

I'm not going to accept or decline your offer at this time, however do have the legal right to accept the offer should the publisher pull support for PSN, or the next patch 1.06 forthcoming from the developer does not fix the connection issues with the free multilayer advertised with the shipped game, ON ALL PLATFORMS!

Considering this stunning threat from you on the PSN networks, if I chose to accept your offer it will be with option 1. I will never purchase an activision game again ever on any platform. I strongly disagree with punishing the users for mistakes made during the development process, and know several consumer advocates here in Canada that would be very interested in what you wrote here.

All gamers want is what they purchased here with the game, and able to enjoy it. So far I've seen nothing in respecting the PS3 gaming community on any front from activision, nor by treyarch on this. If you guys had issues with respect to PSN than it should have been a strictly XBOX PC release. I could seriously see some very strong legal challenges coming your way from the gamer community if PSN support is yanked after release. You can count on that.[/font]

ok i mad

I don't even know why I bought the game in the first place, I was already against the 60$ + 15$ per DLC price, and I know I won't buy the next game this year, the only thing i barely play anymore is zombies with my bro. Sorta pisses me off that instead of trying to do some update on their hardware or whatever they just give up and encourage us to swap the game for another one. And really, it's not like the other games are any worse, they're all going to charge you a ridiculous amount for either the controllers, or stupid DLC, or both.

Seriously, we all know Activision/Treyarch made a completely fucked up game for PS3, Bad Graphics, bad connections, and they admit it, by saying that we should swap our games then, fuck that, I bought this game because I thought it would be good, and now they come with this bullshit..Just retards.

If only Xbox 360 was released way later than PS3.

First PS3 gets  fucked up graphics in Mafia 2, now this.

even on the call of duty forums the guy who is suppose to listen to the community and do his job is not even doing that i can't find his exact post to quote it(as the forums are flooded daily with complaints)

"We are listening to your problems we are working as fast as we can with Sony Entertainment to get fixes out to you a fix normally takes 4-6 weeks to be released as Treyarch does a full 2 week of working on the script then 2 weeks testing it then Sony Entertainment gets a hold of it and tests it themself before making it live

In the mean time on the xbox i got to the 10th presige already if you would like to play add my xbox live account <insert acct here(i can't remember :P)>"

It is complete and under bullshit my cousin works with Sony Entertainment he creates some of the patch for the system and he says that it takes max 3 weeks to get the fix live.

As you can see Treyarch is trying to cover there ass and get more time...

That would look awesome under a 17 inch, 2 tonne CRT monitor. Just like my high schools PC room!

Anyway, it's sad that they are trying to screw over PS3 users like this. Thankfully I sold COD to get GT5 2 weeks after playing.

I enjoyed Black Ops a lot at the beginning, but ever since all these problems on the PS3 started, it ruined the experience, and tbh, Black Ops is starting to get boring already.

Anyways, about the problems, have any of you seen about Modern Warfare 2?

Its ridiculous the amount of problems on Call of Duty games on PS3, instead of releasing a new game every year I'd rather they'd just create a bigger, bug free game.

But like a lot of games nowadays, quality is gone and its all about the money.

Looking for value for money?

Get Gran Turismo 5, amazing game, for sim-drivers, AND arcade drivers, for drivers with a controller, for drivers with a wheel, for drivers who like NASCAR, for drivers who like Formula 1, for drivers who want to experience the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the list just goes on and on without even mentioning the features like the camera in the game.

Black Ops is boring probaly why I haven't touched it in over 9 days now, I went back to MW2 to play Knife only SnD which is far more fun and if you haven't tried it do it, pisses all the QSers off massively when your ruin their 360 jump shots lol.

It won't happen..

Valve already canceled all support for XBOX after an incident regarding the XBOX Live system. Whats to say it wont happen with Activision?

Yeah, but shutting down a server, i guess Activision will understand that doing such things might be a big minus for their own wallet.

Maybe then will activation will see how much money they are losing and work along side with treyacrh to get a proper fix out to the community before putting servers online.

With servers offline they lose A LOT of money and so does treyacrh as they get a percentage

You don't need great servers to earn alot of money.. The server is there, Activision has their money from it because even tough the servers are bad, still millions of people play the game each day.
When the first map-pack releases, they'll be getting another money boost, believe me, they won't shut down the server, unless it would be for maintenance, improvements or any other thing.

Look to EA, they shut down the server support for all games after a couple of years, now that's what i call moneyhungry. Because they are not getting enough space on their servers, they'll just stop the support on not so old games (ex. LOTR Conquest, Fifa 2010 (!), etc... )
Not mentioning that there are alot of people that cannot acces the EA servers without getting kicked from them. (a common bug on the EA servers, it seems..)

Keep always in mind that online gaming is and will remain a tricky part. Aslong Activision keeps making its money, it will do whatever suits itselfs.
What could be an advise to all players:

Stop playing black ops all together all over the world, causing a massive decrease of call of duty players all over the world aswell.... That way activision will notice they'll have to improve that... Maybe worth working on that idea later on.

There is no point in buying an Xbox360 apart from converting this topic into a fanboy fight.

Every console has their problems and issues, for the fact, Assassins Creed Brotherhood has been struggling with the online support on Xbox360, whilst it doesn't experience a single problem on the Playstation.

at least ps3 has more than 2 exclusives

Anyway, the game's boring as I said before, and the lag doesn't make it any better. Zombies with bros is the only thing I feel is worth to play.

Actually, the only worth playing Exclusive on Xbox is Gears of Wars and Halo..Ps3 has far more than that...

Anyways, I don't quite care if they'l either continue or not, but if it becomes worse in connection problems, i'm probably stop playing Black Ops.

all about XBOX -> (http://gamerdb8.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/rrod_shirt2.jpg)

If Black Ops starts to fail at PSN then its not worth at all.Its basically made to be played in MP.Activision fails again.

PC owns both Xbox and PS3, I wish the Xbox and PS3 could have dedicated servers too since, well, that works pretty well on the PC... Dunno' how it would play out like on Consoles tough :O.

I believe PS3 and Xbox have dedicated servers aswell. Always had a perfect connection on WaW and MW2, even on Black Ops it works out fine if i have a good game, but sadly the game experience is interuppted by many disconnects.

Activision has released a new patch which should address all connection issues experienced on PS3.
Also adjustments have been made to the 'second chance' perk and new contracts have been added.

Rusty,

Note you are able to have full customer satisfaction guarantee, and that this guarantee come's with every single game published by Activision, and that if you are not satisfied you are legible to sue them for not keeping you on your side up to the guarantee due to them not following their side of the bargain in the guarantee either.

What I'm saying is,

If they close down support for PSN servers, they are breaking the customer satisfaction guarantee and you can sue them.

In MW2 they have dedicated servers, but the main dedicated servers in Black Ops on Ps3 are Clan War servers, and they never shut down dedicated Clan Wars servers to reduce lag between the huge battle's, which causes lag for the normal servers(Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, etc.)

good luck with that

From The Escapist's newsroom:
"In the amendment, the suit talks about a "police state-like atmosphere" that drove Infinity Ward employees away. Before West and Zampella were fired by Activision, members of Infinity Ward were allegedly subjected to secret "interrogations" as security personnel manned the exits. 40% of the promised bonuses due to the sales of Modern Warfare 2 were paid out, but the suit says that the rest was withheld until Modern Warfare 3 was completed by a required deadline of November 2011."

Well, there go the employee's.

EDIT:

EA CEO John Riccitiello criticized Treyarch/Sledgehammer, saying that while yes, Black Ops sold better than Modern Warfare 2, the average review score was lower. "Treyarch still isn't a studio on par with the original Infinity Ward just yet."

Activision made a counter-suit against West, Zampella and now EA on the grounds that Electronic Arts was intentionally seducing West and Zampella behind Activision's backs. They want 400 million in damages.

Lol.

Patch hasn't made much difference,

Hitmarker detection is awful compared to Modern Warfare 2, you can shoot right through a guy and not get the kill, or you can shoot him for like 3-4 seconds and he'll come up and stab you.

And the knifing, you can pretty much knife through a guy and he will still kill you.

I play Xbox 360 not PS3.
Only posted it since I found it an interesting article.

Patch?
Thank fuck they altered the AK-74u and increased the recoil when you have Rapid Fire attached.
RC-XD's well least you can use Flak Jacket and not be killed by one now that it's gotta be litterally touching you and not 10 ft away.

I love messing with RC cars, I made one kill it's driver :L

The Flak jackets are great at explosions, all you see is a squad of 4 running towards you with flak jackets and you only have hand grenade's left :L

It's always weird that i'm still waay better at MW2 than Black Ops.
The last one is rather frustrating than fun with the points Fabio mentioned.
