Title: [IDEA] Quote inside Quote
Post by: Dan_The_Noob on March 04, 2011, 05:35:10 am
i noticed when quoting someone who quoted someone else..
it only quotes the person who's comment you clicked quote on.. and your reply ends up not making any sense..

the idea.. is when you quote, make it quote the whole comment you are quoting... including quoted quotes O-o..

NOTE: this is not a troll post.. it just sounds like one from the number of times i said quote

Example

Current System

Player1
 bla bla bla

Player 2

Quote from: Player1
bla bla bla
ble ble ble

Player 3
Quote from: Player2
ble ble ble
trolololol

Requested System

Player1
 bla bla bla

Player 2

Quote from: Player1
bla bla bla
ble ble ble

Player 3

Quote from: Player2
Quote from: Player1
bla bla bla
ble ble ble
trolololol

only if people are too lazy to edit the quotes

in most forums your not meant to quote whole posts/replies anyway.. as thats not the point

It's called nested quotes,
it causes un nessecary spam and not needed, if you really want it that bad, put a quote inside a quote or a code.

so limit it to 2 quote levels.. like the example :\

the irony is the example i am about to use, is from this actual post

explain?
because it will spam posts, capiche? :cop:

sure this example is on 1 page.. but imagine a 50 page post, and someone quotes something that was said 3 months ago ... people would be like   "wtf?"

Requested System (limited to 2 levels)

Actually, the quote system is SUPPOSED to work as stated in the topic's suggestion. I think it may have either been bugged or limited as of the forum upgrade.

Or maybe disabled by admin!

I remember when it used to happen, people used to quote and quote and quote and quote then the posts will be toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long, and then people who just join the thread have no clue what the current discussion is about, which is wrong!.

Make a limit on the number of quotes, say, 5. On another forum I used to go on (ANCIENT), the maximum was like 15... that was pretty big. 5 should do just fine.

There are other ways of gaining posts, Tiderman. You should try Forum Games.
Otherwise, elaborate your reply.

Tiderman's post brings "reverse psychology" to mind.

As for the idea, I've been on forums where quote trees were allowed. Arguments would go on and on being quoted in the next post.

Trust me, they weren't pretty.

Still the same logic, trying to get the script to do everything for you.

You never change.

You know exactly what I'm talking about, Void.

If we introduce automatic quotes within quotes this forum will look like Inception.
Dare I say Member Pics?

they could always try make it remove (http://and) in quotes or something.. so people can just click the links.. (which is how pics should be posted tbh)

what good would a script that DIDN'T do things for you be JDC.... well??

The current system actually requires someone to get off their lazy ass and do a bit of effort, whereas you want the server to do everything for you.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but such fantasies are never going to happen here.

Welcome to Argonath.

but what if the quote is from a completely different topic or even FORUM  ????
then we'd be f*cked tryna find it...

i wouldn't put this idea if it was purely to avoid having to look for the other quotes and organise them myself.... as i already do that.. but SOME quotes cant be found so easily  such as ones without the link function like this

Quote from: JDC_designs
RP it.

The current system has worked fine for us for years and shall continue to work for many to come.
