Title: Changename
Post by: Leonardo on March 08, 2011, 01:52:14 am
Please add a /c changename command if it's possible. Would make everything easier..

With this command you'd change your name and transfer everything automatically to the name you choose (CB radio, phone, money, car(s), house, business, SWAT/VCID/VCPD script ranks, admin levels, password)

I'll use myself as example:

[WS]Leonardo: /c changename Tommy_Vercetti
Changename noted, please log off and switch your name in the VC:MP browser.
*after a while*
Tommy_Vercetti has logged in the server
You are logged in!
Level: 3, Rank: Admin

Easy huh? Used the admin rank as a example but there's also everything that i mentioned..

Supported loloolo - I know it's possible as I played a server, where if you changed the nick in browser, in game it checked if your IP has any accounts, and instead of making a new account, it would stay on your account but change your name automatically.

For whatever reason I think it was dropped on our past server version.

Would be good if this could be added.

Well that server would fail, in cases of dyamic IPs.

Huh... i don't want changename because there's in SA:MP, but because it's a useful thing so we won't see anymore ''please transfer that to me and waste my time''.

And i might remind you there's also changename in MTA:VC and MTA:SA. SA:MP is not about everything. :)

I want to disagree with that. ^
Not being able to transfer stats would make people abuse the command less. I think people should just choose their ideal name from the very first time.

Title: Re: Changename
Post by: ~Legend~ on April 10, 2011, 02:27:13 pm
Well, if there are problems like that we could just make it an Admin enabled command completely to prevent people changing every 2 minutes.
Title: Re: Changename
Post by: Klaus on April 10, 2011, 04:44:27 pm
I'm with Morphine on this. People will be changing names way too often, and that's just annoying in my opinion. People should just choose and nickname, choose a clan or whatever and stick with it!
Title: Re: Changename
Post by: Frank_Federico on April 11, 2011, 05:23:42 pm
I agree with Legend, make it an admin-enable-ish command so admins will see if the player really needs to change his name or not.

Simple fix for the abusers
Add a command to allow admins to allow it for players to add group/clan tag for free
For regular name changes make it cost some monies

Against argonath rules...
Also, its a bad idea, coz things aint cheap already.
Title: Re: Changename
Post by: stormeus on April 14, 2011, 12:50:06 pm
Or limit name changes to once every few days or so. Shouldn't be too hard to implement that, and it reduces the number of name changes a user can make. If someone does change nicks to something unrecognizable, they usually tell you that they changed their name, and if not, just ask.

Why charge non-regulars and not regulars. In argonath, a regular is treated same as non-regular.
Same rules applies to all.
Read rules carefully

I guess Aldo meant "regular" as in frequent name changes by people.
I think SA:MP charges like $10k per name change at their City Hall.

Then you should be giving your money to the admins and reporting it. Knowingly abusing such a bug and not reporting it can lead to a ban.

*Bump*

I think this should be implemented, even if it's only activated by admins. Users creating countless numbers of accounts in the server's database only builds it larger with unused accounts, taking more time for the server to access and read information from it.

Unsure how it is progressing, but hopefully it can be made possible. Someone did trial this last year I think, but apparently it wasn't very reliable on working without getting bugs.
People shouldn't be changing their name on a weekly basis, of course, but I think the majority were in favour of this?

I'll be working on it. It'll be tested thoroughly before it's uploaded. Right now, it's being added as a level 3 admin command. There will be a /c namehistory [nick/id] command to see a user's previous nicks. Sound good to everyone?

(I'll be scripting this as the idea changes, so until a decision is made as to how to do this, this'll probably change too)

I didn't expect anyone to say anything over the huge excitement of it.
It transfers stats (cop, criminal and misc) as well as cars, properties + the stored skins and money. Gang HQ invitations, however, are not transferred and in case you are part of a Gang HQ you will have to be reinvited.

You're missing the point though. Everyone changing their name by making a new account is going to add up. Everyone is one of those "single accounts". Why should I be one of them? :)

Change starts with one person with an idea. If one person does it, others may follow. That's how you change the world. ;)

Title: Re: Changename

Yes. If every person does that, imagine how large the user database would be for no needed reason. That's a good cause of lag there in itself.

P.S. Thanks to Spiral I was able to get it changed. :)
Title: Re: Changename
Post by: JDC on July 11, 2011, 03:37:37 pm
Maybe add a command for admins to see all the past names of an account, and make the list of past names linkable to present accounts.

For example, I change my account name from JDC to [FBI]JDC. If the admin looks up the past account name "JDC", then the admin would be told "This account is now named '[FBI]JDC' " or something similar, while if the admin looks at my past account names it will show all of them.

Is that possible?
Title: Re: Changename
Post by: SugarD on July 11, 2011, 03:54:33 pm
It might be, but it may only work for accounts set up in the database after the script was created unless someone manually went through and linked them. TBH it might not be a bad idea to nuke the unused double accounts and add something such as what you are saying, and only issue changenames from now on to prevent filling the database, which is how SA:MP, IV:MP, and partially MTA:VC work. Not sure about MTA:SA, but I'm assuming that if it has been developed, it probably works that way as well.
Title: Re: Changename

When /c changename was implemented, a /c namehistory command was also added, used like so:

It's rarely used, but probably because no one knows about it (until now, anyways).

In that case I would suggest a database cleanup and maximum enforcement of those very useful commands! :)

You know, a person that hasn't been on in years might access the server right when stormeus clears the DB. They come by surprise, leave by surprise and then return by surprise. Would be a bit awkward.
