Title: National Emergency Services Day
Post by: SugarD on March 29, 2011, 11:31:00 am
Well, the idea is for a National Emergency Services Day in Argonath. A community-wide event in every server once a year that honors both living and deceased emergency service personnel. The basic concept is that since we roleplay them every day, why not honor them both with a fun roleplay event, but also use it to be our own way of saying thank you for the lives they save every day? It could be something so simple as a parade across the state in each server to a specific location, a small tribute event, and maybe a speech from the leaders of each emergency service. We roleplay putting our lives on the line every single day for nothing more than pure fun, but these brave men and women do it to save lives, all the while risking losing their own. Just as the United States has a National Police Week to honor downed peace officers, I would like to see something similar in the form of my idea, atleast once a year. I know that in Argonath as well, we have many players that are actual EMT/Paramedics/Firefighter Medics, Peace/Police Officers, and Firefighters/Fire Rescue Workers, so why don't we honor them as well? They put their butts on the line to protect and save our's, so I think they deserve a little recognition from us for it.

Here's a few tributes to those that do what they do best - Saving lives:
Medical: Paramedic killed in crash laid to rest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyaX3yzNbeI#)
Fire: A Firefighter Tribute (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlhcJBj4cno#)
Police: Alone in this bed - A Police Tribute (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxPzYZh9f38#)

I have not figured out a date yet, and I would like the opinions of all the leaders of Argonath's emergency services so we could possibly set this up to happen once a year.

And to lighten up the mood, here's some inspiration for our fellow heroes:
Medical: EMS ANTHEM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi4Imbhr5uc#ws)
Fire: FIREFIGHTER ANTHEM 4: EYE OF THE STORM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwRV4A1gwsQ#)
Police: Cops In Action ! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrUeRRQhSJA#ws)

RIP To all honourable life-saving/people-serving personnels, volunteers, juniors, and people.

We should have this event, in tributes of these "Risk Life to Save Life" People.

Yes Chief SugarD we need just one day. That would be amazing. One day no fights, no suspects, no abusers, just no shit. Nothing just ten minutes out of the Argonath day to have a parade to celebrate fallen officers of the law, fallen firefighters, and fallen medical personal.

That second video brought tears to my eyes. I lost a good friend to cancer. Scott Carlson, died of cancer in September of last year. May he rest in peace. LiveSTRONG, I wear the bracelet for a reason, and I am not taking it off.

Those fallen officers you're talking about respawn a second after you pop them.

I see no problem in honoring fallen emergency personnel.

Of course, Aksel should have had enough common sense to know we are talking about the RL emergency staff.

So? Go make a parade in real life outside your house. I see no point in doing this on an internet game.

So basically you are saying that Halloween, 9/11, and Christmas on Argonath are pointless as well?

No, not really. As that are celebrations that are here to create fun. A parade for dead people on an internet game is only depressing.

Your f**king pissing me off, if you don't give a shit about people who would ANY day risk there lives to save your ass then fine do not participate. You got a problem with it don't log in that day! We do have parades in real life for fallen officers all the time. It was an idea to do it in game to honor them in another way. Yes it's a game it may not matter to you, then fine. However you disrespect my friend, my department, my city, and the men and women who serve everyday to protect us I will get pissed and you are lucky there is a computer between us! Scott Carlson was a great man! He would have any day ran into a burning building to save your ass, because that is what we do, because he was a man that cared about people he did not even know! That man risked his life EVERYDAY to keep civilization stable. We worked side by side and I know for a fact ANY DAY he would be right by my side if I needed help. He was a friend, a father, a son, and an excellent firemen. I want to do this parade Cheif SugarD. I want to do it so show this guy that even if it is a internet game people still remember and they do in fact care. I want to do it for a friend of mine, that I know if he could see it he would think, "that's a pretty sweet game". Stop f**king trolling and get a god damn life Aksel.

This is not real life, and I got a life.

Yeah? And what the hell do you do? Hm?

Hi, I am Aksel. I am fifteen years old and I live in Norway. I was born in Telemark fifteen years ago on Skien Hospitality Center. In Norway there's a lot of opportunities for skiing and the nature is really nice. My hobbies is cross riding and going out with friends.

So ye. Please do not ask me stupid questions.

Stupid questions = Stupid answers.

Your 15, so what the hell do you know? Yeah the question was pertaining to your life, your career, your job. Maybe if you were older you would understand that. Well I run into those burning buildings while your sitting on your ass jerking your meat! I risk my life for others, and the least you could do was let go of you dick for two seconds and stand on the side of a pretend road while I drive a pretend fire engine past. That so f**king difficult for you? I bet you are some nerdy little kid at school that gets mad for of and thinks he is a big man when he is on his computer. I am ending this conversation due to the fact you have no idea what the hell you are talking about.
SugarD I believe this is a good idea, and I would like to drive an engine in the parade on behalf of Engineer Scott Carlson Station 621 IFPD.

Ye, I'd do that if it was in real life. I don't really care if you "risk" your life on a computer game, I am an SAPD officer myself.

Btw: Stop calling me nerdy man D:::

I don't give a shit if you are a wanna be cop in a game. Genius I am a firefighter in real life, pay the f**k attention before you troll. I don't risk my life in a game. It's a game there is nothing to risk. I risk my life in the real world. So before you start trolling and acting like a big shot pay attention.

Tell your children(?) that they should choose a carreer without thinking of fame and publicity. It's obviously your only motive to continue in your job.

Aksel, those people risk their lives in the field so that people like you can live safely another day to express their ingratitude, so there's nothing wrong with honoring them.

I got to say this JDC, being truly honest no flaming intended. I used to hate you! Got tired of being kicked for a joke or something that I did not meaning to, then nicely asking why I got kicked and being kicked again. However I have found that with that comment. Your the best! I did at one time get into the line of work just to say I was a fireman. I still enjoy bragging a bit. However I enjoy saving people more. Being the only one that will come save them when they are in danger. Being one to save lives. That is what I love about my job!

Sure, they can honour them. Why would they do that in a game though? Christmas is fine but this looks kind of pointless.

Honoring people is like sex, you can do it anywhere.

Green jokes aside, celebrating Christmas in Argonath is just as pointless as this idea or as celebrating 9/11 Memorial would be, yet we do it anyway.

Why not set aside one day to honor them? You have 364 days to kill their virtual counterparts anyway.

Why set aside a day to depress the whole server? I see no point in it. We play here to have fun.

From an outsider's point of view, the point of Christmas is celebrating how some guy was nailed to a cross. How is that any different?

The guy was nailed to a cross almost 2,000 years ago, yet we still celebrate that for a whole season, while the men and women of emergency service give their lives every day. It's fair if we set aside a single day for them.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Some people may have decided to join emergency services as a career in their real life from acting as one in the game. I support this to the greatest extent.

And to those that are trolling and being complete douche canoes... if you dont like it, the dont participate. the only thing you're doing is trying to get attention by being a prick... if you dont like it, then ignore it.

Let's celebrate and honor every buried or perished music artist, who contributed the world with beautiful music which inspired a lot of people in their choices in life.
Let's celebrate and honor every buried or perished poet and writer, who contributed with extremely prominent ideas about life and also became a big pathfinder for a lot of human beings.
Let's celebrate and honor every buried or perished star within the most famous categories of sports, who made something conspicuous and unique for the sports in general.

Come on guys, this is only a game.
If you want to honor some people that much, I should advice you to do it somewhere where it is visible to the public, so it makes a difference.

What has that to do with it?
You want to celebrate and honor people you find important for their fine actions and decisions throughout life.
Why don't we honor dead people in our life's instead, or music artists, poets, sport stars, religions in all categories?
The list can be longer, do it where makes a difference. That's my opinion.
Role-playing this or that has nothing to do with it.

Remember, you want to honor IRL people because some role-play as cops/medics/firemens IG.
People might want to honor IRL musicians, because they made a difference in their decisions of role-playing or in life.

lol I played Hitman Blood Money earlier, should I join the Hitman agency?

If a lot of people don't like it and won't participate, you will then be a group of about four to five people. How is that a celebration which should be announced here?

I don't see anything wrong in this - no one would be forced to actually take part in it if they didn't want to.
Just sad that some people seem to get the wrong idea or simply seem to have enough time in their lives to try and ruin it.

To add to this idea, it could simply be a non-specific "Heroes Day" of some sort. That gives way to a variety of activities, and roleplay.
Plus, an event doesn't necessarily have to be a party or something completely upbeat, after all.
If these kinds of initiatives were pointless, we might as well scrap all formal occasions that ARPD, ARFD, EMS or whatever other group might hold.

I think what Sugar/Jack is putting forward here is not something that will lead to all Argonath activities being closed for the day etc., or anything quite in line with the formalities and ceremonies that are done in real life.
Just a more "Argonath style" event re-make.
