Here are some fantastic films about Irelands past and struggle. I don't want this topic to become political, just letting you know about these Movies, if you don't want to watch them because you have opposing political views then that's fine, don't go mental.
Really hope you watch them.

Contain prominent actors like Liam Neesen, Julia Roberts, Alan rickman(Severas snape). Very good. About the war of independence.

Is a film about events which happened not so long ago. Fantastic. About the IRA hunger strikers and what they faced in Jail. One of the actors in it actually used to play here on argonath for a while and has acted in the new Robin Hood movie as well although they have both been small parts(I won't say who he is though :))

Stars up and coming actor Cillian murphy(inception, that scarecrow dude in batman). This films is based on the events that happened after the war of independence which is what that film Michael Collins. Civil war breaks out because after the war of independence Ireland only paritally becomes free, but leaves certain places still held by Britain.(That is why you have Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland). A lot of people don't agree with that and launch a guerilla campaign. Its an amazing film.

Contains actor Daniel Day Lewis(Gangs of New york, There will be blood). This film is in the top 5 of best films i've ever watched. Maybe even the best, it has made me cry a few times.

Another containing Liam Neesan. Not that fond of this film, but its worth a watch at least.
There are more that I just can't remember, i'll list them later. There are also two ones which contain Brad pitt and Harrison Ford which are based on here, but they are more 'America saves the planet once again' films that don't really understand the problem here and gloss over it, typical Hero movies that make no sense.
