Title: Lag.
Post by: Frank_Hawk on April 29, 2011, 09:16:58 pm
The lag on the SA:MP Argonath server is reaching unplayable levels- anybody else experiencing any issues?

SA-MP Tips #1 - Lag (Sync) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDzz2ymH_Rg#)

If so, what can we do to reduce lag and overall playability?

I suppose this is why RS5.0 should be coming up soon!

As usual lag can have several causes.
[li]Bandwith lag : Due to high use of bandwith in case of FTP access / Web access. With a lot of development work being done, a probable issue at this time.
[/li]
What measures are we taking ?
If you notice lag, try to report it through MSN, so we can easier find a likely cause.

It seems that the problem resides over the server passing 100 players in-game.

Anybody experiencing the same?

Yeah. Well lag isn't as horrible as it could be. Mostly I'm experiencing the chat lag only, chat seems to be late for a second or two, even though the ping is around 60 ms.

There is a difference between lag and delay...and I haven't really experienced much server lag.

I do however not constant; normally in random spikes of lag. When the server reaches higher than 100, yes the lag spikes do increase and be come more drawn out.

Also; on that note should we report to an Admin, Developer or a manager on MSN?

I have experienced lag at the level of 100 players and above. I get usually around 100 ms ping and at times I still lag. Also, below is my current connection.

EDIT: Though weird, I experience spikes going down and up at all times. Here is another picture to prove so.

How does that relate to Argonath though?

One issue I am noticing is regular recurring desync.

As usual lag can have several causes.
 • Processor lag : if the server is busy. Currently not an issue
 • Memory lag: if the RAM goes beyond the physical available . Currently not an issue
 • Disk / processing lag : if the HD is busy so a waiting que is present. Sometimes an issue
[li]Bandwith lag : Due to high use of bandwith in case of FTP access / Web access. With a lot of development work being done, a probable issue at this time.
[/li]
What measures are we taking ?
 • Processor is monitored to check for possible lag
 • RAM is monitored to check for possible lag
 • Disk usage is minimized through scripts
 • Some heavy use web applications are moved away, FTP bandwith is limited in number of connections
If you notice lag, try to report it through MSN, so we can easier find a likely cause.

Would it be worth investing in a Solid State Hard Drive at this time?

Also you can do something which theoretically halfs your Hard Drive capacity and doubles the speed, I enhance the 'Theoretically' part

He is talking that it's impossible for him to have lag due to bad connection with server, because he has a very good speed.. (amazing speed.. i only have 3,5 mbps lol)

Don't get me wrong mate, but if you would move from Idlewood a bit more, you wouldn't experience constant lag.

Experienced lag in the yesterday event. Increadible lag. My player was moving in slow motion. I guess that was caused because of the ammount of players that were in that place, at the same time.

(By the way, the song of the movie has some Greek lyrics in it, when the woman is singing. Never listened to it before though)

I have an IDEA!

Let's ask Corey, if he feels any lag on server! If he doesn't, we're good :P

In the past 1 week, I've been experiencing massive de-sync and lag, Mostly during evenings.....  It's not because i live in India with a 512 kb/s connection

People begin to actually notice lag when a topic like this is made, to be honest.

I can recall some time back, we had a similar problem when the server went over 100 players and the lag spikes began.

To me, it seems like it's been gradually increasing over the last 3 weeks.

Looking at the replies here, there doesn't seem to be much of a consensus - perhaps varies for different people?
