I was wondering if its possible to have some kind of Topic moderator.
For example, when you create your topic you can set specific users as moderators over that topic that can edit the topic.
Its good for example a group that have 2 leaders and one is going away(The topic creator) then it might take some time to get topic updated.
-
Agree to this!
-
Good idea.. dunno if it's possible to script though
-
This would be very usefull, an great example is when my group leader was forumbanned, the topic hadent been updated for like 5 months
-
Would be useful for topic editing purposes when you can't get hold of someone with the relevant rights.
As far as I know, SMF doesn't come with such a thing, but I wonder if a custom package for that can be made.

but I wonder if a custom package for that can be made.
I really hope it could be :D

Supported.

This will have bad and good sides.
Bad
For example. There is some topic in ideas section and its regarding Cops, topic creator wants Cop reward for killing suspect to be lowered but cop comes out with some good arguements and topic owner mutes him and removes his post in order to have less cop arguements.
Good
It will be usefull for Clans/Mafias/Groups.
Solutions for any situation
Solutions to this are limiting the rights to: Lock/Unlock topic, Edit posts(Can be abused in way like this: Player1 posts somethings and topic mod changes it into "Im biggest d*ck on this world" but SMF logs last changes so it would be dealt quickly).
-
Unsupported, can cause abuse.

Agreed but "Not supported"

You will not have the rights to moderate any posts inside the topic. ONLY The main post. The other posts is for Board Moderators
-
Mostly all moderators try their best to keep topics smooth and cool, that's one main task that they have to do. However, i cannot imagine how it will work out if each user in the forum moderators each and every one of their topics. I believe it is more better to let moderators do their job as they have been trained to do so. I'm not saying a player doesn't know how to control their topic, but moderators have been also trained by the guides given to give the right punishment.
I usually give my effort as best as i can to keep the forum cool and nice, i also give some tips to users to PM me if no one has responded on their report.

Re-read that please! This is just to moderate the FIRST post in order to update it for example member lists and such.
-
You already can ?

You already can ?
No. its to allow someone else to edit your first post in your topic. for example. I open up a topic for a group, and then I can set you as a moderator over the topic. and you will be able to edit ONLY the first post in the topic :)
-
I get your point there, however, theres nothing to do untill there actually is a smf script for it.
-
I am not an expert in terms of SMF; however, I doubt that such add-on exists for it, as it would require additional data sets to be stored in the database which negatively affects its (already low) performances. An alternative solution could be that a number of trustworthy members are assigned to moderate a particular section that has topics that need sharing (for example, groups and businesses section), and that the leading members of such groups PM the moderator with the additions to the topic.
-
It could be good, but you are allowed to make an account used only for the purpose of the group (as in topic etc), though I would get permission first...
The ownership could be changed to that so all you would need to do is give someone else the password.
-
Put simply.
Not possible. - No available package for SMF that supports this.

Would be cool though - then I could delegate to Bishop Bastard, and he would actually do something. :P
-
I totally support this!
-
(already low) performances
Performance issues has nothing to do with the software but the hardware/internet/software of server and the people trying to access the forum
Some load times from some of the SMF forums I own
"Page created in 0.049 seconds with 12 queries."
"Page created in 0.053 seconds with 11 queries."
"Page created in 0.081 seconds with 9 queries."
I totally support this!
As Reece said this is not possible so why support it? You should be posting on the SMF forum about adding this feature for future releases
-
It is possible to make a package for this, and it just so happens that I'm pretty experienced with SMF 2.0 modifications. :D
Supported, and I can make a proof-of-concept package as well.

Hmm actually after looking I found this:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1621 (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1621)
But it's outdated.
-
Yeah, but only the topic starter can do anything, and he has complete control over the thread as if he were a regular moderator (move, delete, edit replies).

Ask an Webmaster to change the username of the first post!
But still supported, I will look over this idea ;).

Very unstable version, but here's what I have so far.

I think he means the topic moderator has only equal rights as the topic creator, How can he abuse then? o.0 Noone can abuse such rights I believe. Since even the topic creator can't mute/edit posters posts.
Highly Supported.

Yeah, how about just like they mention leaders/members/trial members in the topic, in the footer of the first post people leave a note with the names of topic moderators, basically giving them the same rights? And the topic mods can then pm the forum mods to make changes to the topic.
