This is a suggestion for the forum "World News & Current Affairs".
The forum would be there to act as one of the many hearts of the community.
The forum would be there to enable users from across the world to post news from there own or another country, perhaps posting news for the select private world of ours to see before the major news networks discover it and print it for the rest.
If this forum was made the forum leadership should think strongly about the prior selection of MODERATORS & preparing the forum with useful information & clear rules.
As it's my idea & I know what should be there to begin I would nominate myself as mod
There is no hiding the fact that this corresponds with the recent announcement & closure of "Politics and Religion" forum. It may be to some "too soon" for this, but the major downfall of the Politics and Religion forum was that there was too much emphasis on Politics and Religion.
The "World News & Current Affairs" forum would be much better and relates to My personal opinion is never to look at the past but look at the present.
When I suggested the forum which was made but as "Politics and Religion" I originally wanted to have light comments / relaxed discussions on news and current affairs, not what turned out to be HEAVY DEBATES full of running emotions which "Politics and Religion" became.
This is Argonath but, I suggested such on another community they took it aboard and that forum has existed there & it's been 2 years without any occurrence such as that of the notorious Politics and religion, something NO ONE was in favor of.
It (the forum I originally suggested) should have been focusing on civilized, moderated and respectful discussions - not just "Stating your opinion no matter what" - as well as the bonus of posting News.
Please consider the idea...
This idea is not over, it will continue and there is a lot more GOOD that can come, until / if it is accepted ... we'll just have to wait and see. k.

I'm fine with this.

So what happened to the Politics and Religion topic?

Rotten hearts must be.

There is a saying in Croatia: "There is a difference between shit and shit packed in a nicely done box with a beautiful wrap."

Sorry but you're the last person I'd choose to moderate on the aforementioned section. Don't take it personal.

Au contraire, the emphasis was on reading/acknowledging and posting the first sentence found on Wikipedia.

Shallowness and provocation.

Deja vu, anyone?
This has been the case of the "Politics and Religion" forum. Ipso facto, "Oh hey, lets post WHAT DO YOU THINK OF..." = Random news = individuals provoking
You haven't noticed that the last 2 pages of Politics and Religion WAS News and Current Affairs. And look how it turned out.
That's why I stopped posting in that board.
I rest my case.
It is a lot better this way.
Regards.

Ok... You seem to have deconstructed my message in an attempt to seem like you've analyzed it properly and understood it well, but you have not.
I am still confident in this idea and know it would flourish.
People misunderstood the politics section, and it should've been planned for.
If you re-read the forum moderator & other topics in this section you'd notice that there was many calls / requests for change to the Politics and religion section.
If you're going to say something like "Hurr durr you of all people should not moderate the section" and include "nothing personal bruv" you should re-think before you post.
You should elaborate that part of your post - do you think I'm too busy already as forum moderator? A freecop? Because I'm British and you think that would not work well in such a forum(although you said nothing personal brov)
I hope you are aware there are many sayings across the world.
Look at Parliament. They mess with serious shit everyday, some which most do not understand / like. But it is done in a good way, the same with administrating forums and server - you do not say "FUCK OFF DICK HEAD" and kick a new player if he asks "Hey can I use flying mod here?".

Your forum reputation precedes you. Of course its nothing personal, as I've not included anything personal in the sentence.
So, as the Parliament discusses many topics they cannot bring a resolution about and argue about, we should do it as well. You well know that the board will turn into a kill zone.
I've understood your post. You just want to add another quazi-Politics and Religion section. As I said, it is much better this way.
Regards.

The things you want to be in that forum ( "Brining news from own or another country") and such was done in 'Politics and religion' board...and look how it ended.
And you never gona stop peoples having strong debates....there are some peoples that just can't handle the fact that opposite faction has more good arguements.

It's very possible to organize things to be done in a civilized manner, with respect to forum management but in complete honesty the Politics forum was not at all organized and was left to do it's own thing. The one sticky topic was there but no one (other then the incredibly already busy owners) was actively enforcing it or it's message.
The concerns where raised multiple times (months in advance and recently) by people but nothing proactive was done.
In the politics section there was far too much focused on "What do you think of:" Islam,Christianity,Religion,Russia,Uk,China,Israel,ww2, Hitler, Nazism, bestiality or what not.
But say politics remained ban, so this forum can still go on the trial run of people post pure news, be it celebrity, gas prices, technology, a dog got hit by a twelve ton truck, w.e. With such a community you cannot completely remove "politics".
Politics has a huge influence on life and as a result of that - this community is also affected.
People do not simply change or hide there (political) views when they do not have a forum to discuss it in, they might just continue in peoples pms, cb, the /p chat in server you see often.
Who knows in the worst case scenarios there inability to openly allow there feelings could cause massive mental retardation and cause them to epic rage - and owners know that for some this is like there life... so erm.
Like I told to a few people that I won College president (yay) that can be seen as political, when really the gloating part was actually more sociable. People asking stuff for example, you finding out about others, etc. It can all lead on to a huge debate. It can't be avoided.
Drastic measures must be taken, such as banning everyone or anyone who is suspected to have / have had any political opinions whatsoever - which includes me.. but also owners :D.
The recent hacking scandal... People hugely emphasized "he's from Bulgaria"... as if that matters...
People who / when didn't know where also asking "Where is he from".
The fact he is from Bulgaria doesn't matter, he could've been from anywhere and done w.e.

There was huge interest in the politics section.
It will turn into a kill zone if not properly looked after like the politics forums where.

Seems it is better this way. If you really want to discuss about the current world news and affairs, well find the right person and talk to him personally also be sure to discuss the things light-hearted and keep an open mind. Also it can be not only current topics but anything at all. For example:
Great Britain - Panda
USA - Jamal, Squeak
Serbia - Cofiliano
Croatia - Void
Turkey - Truth
India - Kunal
Palestine - Amon Ra
France - Daco
Greece - Eminem
Lebanon - Ziad
Brazil - JayL
Norway - Aksel
Actually the list is way way way way longer, these are just the names that I remembered right now who are all people who really don't mind some questions about their country of origin, the history of it and current news.
-
Great Britain - Panda
I like the idea, to be honest - but then I loved the politics and religion board as it was one of the only places where serious debate took place. Its removal basically suggests that such a thing cannot work in a community comprised primarily of younger people, such as this one.
-
I already miss the
hate discussions on Communism and the other jewels of P&R...
Anyway if we make one like that people will probably derail the topics into p&r arguments.

He's actually back lol.

So you know who to turn to for the mere sake of arguing that can never stop :)
-
That forum needed moderators and better structure in which way to discuss.
-
The politics and religion board was chaos indeed. Many of you now say ''good thing it's gone'', but I myself enjoyed watching these heated discussions and sometimes joining them.. After all, as long as it's kept within that board, nobody should complain because they aren't forced to view that board or reply to anything.
It is true what Curse said though, sometimes things went too far and moderators weren't present..
Anyways, a so-called ''World News and current affairs'' sub forum would just be a cover up for the old Politics and Religion board, simply because there WILL be argueing about the ''current affairs'' and things WILL get out of hand as much as they did in the old board, according to many.
So basically I support bringing back the old one with a better structure and more moderators but not some lame cover-up for it
-
I still fail to see why the politics and religion section was removed.
I also fail to see why people chose to be offended when reading it.
Being offended is a choice that you make. If you don't want to be offended.. how about just not choosing that?
Also, if you truly believe in something, and then someone comes and mocks it - then you should reply with belittlement and mockery of your own. If you don't, then that just shows you don't really believe in it, and need to rethink your words in the future.
-
Being offended is a choice that you make.
Almost broke out into laughter after reading this. :gd:

Almost broke out into laughter after reading this. :gd:
Why?
-
I don't mind someone asking me about my country, or even mocking it. Their life, their choice.
But I don't allow that to a Serb. :D
Panda, if we didn't have the "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ..." threads and et cetera, I believe things would be much different.
I know since that section started, we had many good debates. Whether it was about religion, meaning of life or simply current world affairs.
And I have to agree sadly. Its your choice to get offended.
Schopenhauer said that the world is a will and an idea.
-
then you should reply with belittlement and mockery of your own.
/me clicks on report.
Reason : Provoking
Next Day : Moderator Comment : Behave
Beneath that, by the moderator : I just deleted a whole page of provoking post, don't post such crap again,or you'll get muted bla bla etc etc.
If the only purpose of the politics and religion section was to mock one another than shouldn't it have been removed?
-
My post there was basically just a long version of the phrase "grow a pair".
Why choose to be offended? I never understood that.
-
People here are Patriotic, and patriotism can change into jingoism and intolerance pretty quickly.
-
I would support the re-addition of a Current Affairs forum provided it had its own team of Board Moderators. Politics and Religion was heavily under-moderated.
