Title: Case Fan Issue
Post by: Julio. on July 10, 2011, 12:54:59 am
Not an issue really, more of a question.

Basically, I bought a case fan, whoopee, but theres no 3 pin plugs left on my motherboard to power it.

I know that I can get an Adapter from 3 pin to Molex so it will be powered from the PSU direct. However, this fan has a temperature sensor etc, it's own on a long cable, so when the case gets too hot, it speeds up. Will this still work?

I know I will not see the speed of the fan etc as it will not be connecting to the Motherboard, but will it still do it's main features, such as speeding up and down according to temperature?

Thanks in anticipation

Joe/Julio

I've gone for this Arctic F12 Pro TC thing, says it's quiet as it only works when it's needed, and also it has a silicon mount to reduce vibration sounds.

Would you have thought the fan speed would be affected? Will it speed up? Slow down?

Speed up if needed.

If it has inbuilt tempreture sensors, it wont matter where its plugged, if it doesnt, you could always swap one of the existing fan spots for your new one, and have it run though molex.

honestly you would be better off with a better fan running though the motherboard and just swap out the more useless to run through molex

I was inclined to doing that :D
