Title: How to use GPS
Post by: Jubin on July 22, 2011, 01:40:56 pm
Coordinates plane. Now this is how much you should know about it. There are two axis X and Y axis. Where the two axis cross each other there is coordinates (0;0) And from the sketch you can see, that X value increases to the right and Y value increases to upwards. Also you should know that we count bearings clockwise, so North is 0( and 360), East is 90 degrees,  South 180 degrees and West is 270 degrees.

Ok now let's put up San Andreas map as well.

So, someone gives you their coordinates, then you can already tell by looking by them on which of the 4 parts on the map they are on, and after you use /gpstrack, you get bearing. Remember when reading bearings North is 0, East is 90.... and here are some examples of bearings and how to read them.

How to reach NAP with a plane.

Just match the /gpstrack bearing with the plane heading number and you get there soon enough.

One extra tip would be to refresh /gpstrack  from time to time, to adjust your bearings accordingly, because the closer you get to the target, thhe more rapidly the bearing will change.

And also, you do not have to be at the centre of the map for the bearing to work. It is a bearing from your current position. Same principle applies.  ;)

I personally know how to read /gpstrack, and SOME of this guide is helpful.

However, talking about the x and y axis may confuse some people  :devroll:

As far as the developers are concerned, we are all 18 ;)
I'm sure every person here knows how to read 2D coordinates on an x and y axis...

From the title, I was about to start posting a lecture....but then I read the topic and realized :P
Nice work, could be useful for the 2000 players that join and go "How to use GPS?????" "/pm <admin id> how to use GPS??" blah blah
Best tip you could add though, is where to buy a gps from

When you get the GPS cordinates, you can type in the command "/dl" ingame. This is alot easier and it updates the whole time. :)

Everything in this topic still works the same all I want to add is when you are heading to NAP on a shamal, be sure to slow down when the range is about 3km or so, because it is really easy to miss NAP when going with full 270km/h when on a slower plane the time to slow down is a lot closer, around 1.5km away from NAP is normal to start slowing down.

To be honest, to get an exact position of the desired location in a GPS, you also need to use the Z axis (not in planes though). You can't fly with cars.
